There's another 24hrs for you. I just don't get these companies that say don't split break because they are actually losing money in many cases and the driver loses miles. I agree if you don't need to split then don't! But if you could use it and need miles go for it!

Risk Management/Loss Prevention is Key to Cost Accounting--- They got to control their costs-- Like Hobo just pointed out above---a tired driver can mess up a log book real easy by just bad math 7.5+7.5=14--only when you're brain dead add to that a driver the "don't fully" understand the rules. 1 driver can get the company fined big $$$$ for a small math error on paper. then it takes 100 loads @ .10 profit per loaded mile to pay for that fine. it takes 100 drivers to make you; but only 1 driver can break you.

Even if your company won't accept them you can still use it to make sure you are not in violation. kc0iv

I see their point on not letting you split sometimes, however I feel they are ripping the "driver" off of miles. All it takes is training them on the regulation and making sure they understand. Then maybe when they see the freight income/versus the fines from DOT maybe they will realize "I was right" I mean what do I really have to gain by teaching a driver how to split break? I don't get a bonus and it gives me more work to do. So if I didn't believe I was right, I wouldn't teach you it

But it takes one driver (this is very common) to mess up on his 10 hour break also, the many times only take 9.75 hours (or a little less) which means they are in violation as well. I get more of these than I do a driver split breaking incorrectly. Usually if you are caught split breaking incorrectly the officer will just teach them the correct way (sometimes wrong way) and give them a warning. NOT ALWAYS, most of the time though.
