I went to a GNC for a sleep aid, and asked if there was anything for staying awake, I tried 5hr with mixed results, A walk and fresh air also helped but I never had a problem after taking LIPO 6 its for weight loss but works super for stayin awake and alert.

Finally when I was tired I crawled into the Bunk and slept til I woke up(WITHOUT an Alarm clock which is also another tool telling your body to do what it doesn't want to do). A Buddy of mine told me that a long time ago and I told him that I'd oversleep but that didn't happen.

I think the problem here is not taking a ten hour break, while sometimes I only get like 4 or 5 hours of sleep, because we all know the log tricks that tend to give us no time to sleep.
Although one time I had a load going to San Antonio Tx, It was 670 miles for the day and if I went straight in I would have 45 mins to spare. Had to be there on time so I could get mt and make it to the load that gets me home for w/e. Long story short I got all the way down there and there was a wreck not to far from des, Highway was shut down. I was so drained I hit the exit and with in 1 min I was asleep. 20 mins later I checked traffic it was starting to move. I made shipper and with my power nap I had a hard time going to sleep :lol:

Some more things that work. I just put this to the test too...as I drove through the night. I was good for the first couple hours. Day or night...I tend to feel drowsy after the first two hours. I just push through that though.
By the fourth hour..I was now drowsy. I pulled into a T/S and topped off my fuel...and walked around. Felt good...and nice 50 degree weather. By hour six I was wanting to zone out. Trick no.1 I air my seat all the way up, then back it off just a tad. Then I begin stretching/isometrics. My legs, arms, back, over and over. Massaging my neck, arms, legs, and rubbing my scalp. I do this for around the next half hour. I get my blood going this way, and it takes out the kinks. Usually a half an hour of this is all I care to do. It gets tiring in itself...but it sets up Trick no.2 I took an off ramp, got out again and walked around looking at my rig. Pulled some food and water out...and headed off. I keep lots of provisions on the rig. I yanked two Cinnamon Raisin with cream cheese bagels out of my cooler. I fix usually a dozen of those at home to bring with me. Added a Slim Jim beef stick, and a crisp Fuji apple. I buy cases of bottled water at Sam's Club. My favorite are the Fruit 2 O. I ate the first bagel, and Slim Jim, and downed a bottle of water. That refreshed me, as well as the window down... slightly. 50 degrees out there...and last thing I wanna do is put the heat on. I was good for the next hour...felt wide awake.....but after that the drowsies were back. Ate the other bagel, and the apple. Felt good to go again. Played my iPod...(Joe Satriani) and had no more worries. I won't drink coffee. It makes me jittery...and feeling raggety. I like a hot cup first thing in the morning...that's all.

the spray bottle is one of the funniest i've heard. what do you do? go down the road spraying water on your face. ? lol. well for me i think it has a lot to do with your lifestyle & eating habits. my big cooler always consist of raw fruits & veggies. spinach, green pep,broccoli, green beans, apples .e.t.c. usually 5 different veg's & 5 diff fruits. though this is what i eat always. so i'm almost always never tired. i couldnt sleep if i wanted to unless i drive at least 1000 mi. i drink or take nothing to stay awake. my ole hard rough riding cabover truck has also helped. if you drive a nice riding truck it will be a lot harder to stay awake. for me it's like this. if i'm tired i pull over. if i'm not tired i keep moving, no matter how long i've been up.

I maybe no trucker, but I've made the trip from North Carolina to WV quite a few times while I was in the service and can provide a few tips that kept me going;
1. lots of water or juice 2. better diet (yes i know i'm sounding like a dietition here) 3. stop periodicly and stretch your legs, go for a 5 minute walk to keep the blood flowing 4. if you have the time and i know this isn't always the case, but try taking a minimum 1 hour "power nap" and try to get 5 hours if you can. Studies have shown the brain gets almost fully 'reset" from 5 hours of sleep. I know driving a car is nowhere close to driving a truck, but just a few tricks of the trade I picked up on during those trips. |
