This can be beaten to death, Old way has worked. I've used the old way up until 2 years ago or so. Adapted GPS into my bag of tools, and I'm happy to added another NAVIGATING solution that helps make my day to day work much easier. Isn't the saying "WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER??" what were supposed to live by??

I know that "maybe" at some point I will break down and buy one    but it would have to be one like this: http://www.magellangps.com/products/....asp?segID=391
Because this one will fill my "marine navigation" needs and road uses. 8) But I think I'll wait til I buy my new trawler....

![]() The Magellan can be configured based on your requirements and the software inputs..... plus I own a full set of the NAVTEC charts for the US East Coast, all the way around the Keys, up and over the big bend and around to the Mexican Border....and all the way down to the Bay of Campeche.... and they will interface through the laptop to the GPS for trip/cruise planning and positioning.... I just need to get the correction tables and a sextant so I can shoot the stars and sun if my GPS crashes at sea... 8)

An ex-company driver rolled a truck on some small road in NY during that last Nor-Easter in white out conditions(according to him). The funny thing about this is(not that this is funny) is that he was following his GPS and a mile up the road was a low clearance bridge. 10'6" according to my dispatcher. He walked away from the rollover and it was his fault. According to him he did cross referance it with his atlas but as many of you know that up there in the north east not every low clearance is listed.
I wonder what would have been better. I think the roll over. But that is my opinion. One other thing, that was suppose to be my load, but decided to take a Wisconsin trip instead. The directions he was given sent him the same route his GPS gave him. I can tell you that I am really glad I didn't take the trip. Although I would have called the reciever to verify the directions first as is my usual practice when going to a new place. This particular driver has been driving about 25 years and has had two rollovers in the last 14 months. Both his fault. I think it's time for him to hang up the keys.

Both times he was going too fast for conditions. The first happened in Arkansas taking an off ramp in the Rock way to fast. He said he lost his brakes, but DOT said otherwise. The second one he said there was a foot of snow on the ground, but the accident pictures show maybe 3 inches at the most. He basically didn't know the road, came over the hill too fast and at the bottom was a curve to the left. Because of comming over the hill to fast with an immediat downhill he couldn't get his speed down enough to take the curve. The trailer fishtailed off the road into the ditch taking him with it. I don't know about you, but I would have learned my lesson after the first time. Thankfully though I don't need to learn a lesson since one of my biggest fears is taking a curve too fast, I tend to take them rather slow.

If you can't read a map well, don't get one. Its a gadget that will keep you entertained and validate your experience/knowledge.
