Well i finally made the trip up to St. Catherines, Ontaio. I crossed the border on Fri. morning they didn't ask for my birth cert. or drivers license...it was quite simple. It was very cold and windy up there. I got loaded up and came back to the border later the same day. It was a little different coming back to the USA. First, the customs guy was a complete jerk to me. I didn't really know what he wanted from me and apparently the paper work my company filled out wasn't exactly correct. He asked for my license and was very impatient with me and i was like sorry man it's my first time doing this. So, after holding up the line for a bit he sent me to get the truck x-rayed. I guess I seemed suspicious. That only took 5 mins. and i was very releived that after that i was able to go on my way.
The next challenge was the snow in Rochester and Syracuse. But after I get through that it was smooth sailing all the way back to central PA.

Don't forget that the 244" limit only apply's when you're pulling a 53' trailer anything shorter and you can have a longer truck with no permit. In Ontario at least. If you're pulling an RTAC set of trains you can go up to 258 or 260 because it goes by overall length which is 82'. The new rules that they just come out with for ONT/MI guys is that if your truck and trailer are both 07 and newer the truck has to be 244" to get Ont"s max gross weight. If the truck is longer you are only allowed Mi gross weight but will not receive an overlength ticket.

if i owned the truck i wouldnt enter canada with it.it could be seized on a technicality at either side of the border.
people in canada were always nice to me but some customs and dot want to get in your face and make sure you know your in a sovereign country.if the border were closed the canadians would have more problems with it than the us people. some of those us customs people have spent too much time on the southern border and have developed isues of their own

I've crossed between the U.S. and Canada for years. I have my own truck. I've never had problems. If you enter either Canada or the U.S. and you have your paperwork in place, as it should be, and your attitude is right it makes all the difference. Rule of thumb is....treat others as you'd like them to treat you. Yes, at times there are some Customs, on both sides of the border, that make you feel like they're better than the rest, but you just treat them with politely. I've seen at times drivers badmouthing officials and telling them how they're making their jobs difficult for them. As if that helps things out any...NOT! It ends up making things difficult for drivers next in line, that's all. This of course is my opinion. Drive safe everyone.

You probably didn't seem suspicious to the customs guard bandits44x, the US x-rays almost every truck that crosses into the US( the only place I haven't been x-rayed is at Detroit...and I cross alot!!) Cross the border a few more times and you'll know exactly what to do!!
