I'm confused... why would you get the tanker without the hazmat? Unless your planning on hauling milk, a tanker without a hazmat is pretty much useless. Dont get me wrong, I dont have either and am not an expert by no means, but the only thing I can think of that doesnt require H/M is milk.... and I would imagine thats a pretty limited field.

I pull a 6000gals Vacuum tank. Hauling Shit from package plants (small sewer plants) to treatment plants (big Sewer plants) you don't need hazmat.

I stand corrected Mackman... as I said I'm no expert (in fact I have virtually zero knowledge in this area). I just couldnt think of any liquids that are transported that wouldnt require hazmat besides milk... although human excrement would be considered hazardous in my opinion.

Here is a pic of one of are trucks this is a 6700gal tank i was driving (not my everyday truck)

This is a pic of the fine cargo we haul. This is about 70,000Gals of the good stuff. The air is on in the tank that's why you see the bubbles. Any one want a bubble bath??? The air stirs it up cuz the heavy sludge sits at the bottom of the tank.

Dan, No drawbacks that I can think of. As another poster mentioned. The tanker endorsement and the doubles/triples endorsement are very easy.
In my case, I had both endorsements along with HazMat. I strolled in to a petroleum company one day, and after they saw that I was willing enough to already have the necessary endorsements, hired me on the spot (pending MVR, drug screen etc). It has paid great dividends for me. Best of luck.

How does someone go about getting these endorsements. In school we were told that the company you work will train you for hazmat, they made no mention of a tanker endorement.

Just go to the DMV and take the tests. They are cheap, hazmat background check will run ya a few bucks.

I think you should just get all your endorsements right away. A company will train you in hazmat if that's what they haul, but in my opinion it is best to have the endorsements off the bat.

Reason being, if you go in to apply at a job and they have doubles/triples, tankers, or hazmat and you don't have the endorsements, sure you can go get them but if there are other applicants that have them they'll take them over you.

Like the other guy said, it is better to have them and not need them to need them and not have them. Makes it so much easier to get a job you want. I have all endorsements except passenger/school.

Your State Drivers License testing facilities have free booklets that you can get that cover all that you need to know to pass the hazmat and tanker endorsement tests.

There will be no questions on the endorsement tests that are not covered in the booklets that you can get for free from your state offices.

There is no need to purchase any books anywhere.
