Default Picking up tanker endorsement...

I have been thinking about getting my tanker endorsement added on (no hazmat). What are the advantages of having it (aside from the obvious), and what are the draw backs to it?

I know there are plenty of tanker yankers on here that could say more than I can... but it was my understanding that petroleum tankers (obviously hazmat) were easier/safer to pull than food grade because of the baffles in something like a gas tanker that are not present in a food grade tank.

That is the impression I got reading through the CDL manual. I guess they cannot use baffles because of bacterial growth problems.

I pulled a smooth bore (food grade, no baffles) last year for a while and getting used to the surge was not fun... you learn to shift more smoothly!! It's not that bad when your fully loaded but when your half full or so it's alot stronger....

Take the test. It's only about 15 questions - only about 3 of them are specific to tankers, the rest is from general knowledge.

Tankers is probably the easiest endorsement to get.

IMHO, a person is somewhat foolish not to get it.

Better to have it and never use it then to not have it and want it later on.

Just my opinion...

Having Tanker AND Hazmat opens the doors for so many more possibilities and options for a driver. Just remember, I'm very biased about this opinion :P  !!!

Yeah you all make good points there. I may still go for it. Shoot, what do I have to lose? I have already lost my mind!

While you're at it, get doubles/triples. Very simple test.
