they were fine so long as you didn't eat there.... you'd be visiting the restrooms for hours afterward!!!
I ate out of my truck. Truck stop food and buffets was just too expensive, and the food was never very good. I only overnighted there on just a couple of occassions.

For the most part, the only use I had for a truckstop was to fuel, shower, and get coffee and smokes. Unless I was shutting down for my 10hr. break, which was usually during the daylight hours, I seldom gave too much thought to them. I refueled, I parked, logged, showered, slept, ate, woke up, brushed my teeth, grabbed my coffee, logged, lit a cigarette, and then drove again.

I was always in-and-out as quickly as I could make it happen.

I keep reading about these drivers who are parked a T/S waiting on loads. Strange as it may sound, there were times that I envied them a bit. It would have been nice to be able to shut down for a while in Vegas, or on the desert, or a few other places.

Yup, I know what you mean. I usually pulled in there for restroom, Trip Pak drop, and maybe a drink if I was out in the cooler. When I was a trainee though, my trainer was one of the truckstop hoppers... The one evening we grabbed dinner there, we didn't get the chance to leave any time soon

About on par with Swift's "Jake Brake Cafe" in Phoenix... my co-driver learned the hard way not to eat the eggs....

If I was inclined to eat at a restauraunt, I'd usually try to find one within walking distance of a T/S, (not always easy, but worth the effort!!) or I'd find one where I could park the truck.

Better prices, better food......the only thing they lacked was the opportunity to sit and listen in on other drivers telling their "driver's stories", and how they called out "The Federal Marshall" on some DOT Officer!!!!

When I was with my trainer, we did stop at a T/A that was supposed to be the biggest truck stop in the world; I don't remember where it was though.......I want to say somewhere up in Mossouri, but I'm not sure.

That place was huge, though!!

That should have been the Iowa 80 in Walcott... it's a T/A now.

By Jove, now that you mention it, I think you are correct!! It was very nice inside, but in actuality, it really didn't seem so very different from other T/S's, just a whole lot more of it!! 8)

Little America, Flagstaff Arizona
Great shower (I have a shower/toilet in my truck, but always use this one when I pass through).
Get out and mountain bike over to Mt Elden trailhead, throw the bike on my back, and hike to the top until I reach the fire tower. Tear up the fire road on the way down.

That IS a nice place, if it the one I'm remembering. It was one of those times, like most, when I just shut down for my 10, then got rolling again. It would have been nice to spend some time there!!
