The old stand by, Have them call your admin section for verification and they will gladly give the information or just get a letter from your First Shirt that verifies your service including your Terminal leave status with your retirement date.
When I was faced with the same thing My Sgt Maj gladly called the recruiting department and gave that information over the phone.

I am currently active duty military and in 8 months I will be retiring after 22 years. My actual retirement date is August 31st, 2007 but I start my terminal leave (accumulated vacation taken all at once but still receiving active duty pay) in just over 6 months from now (June 12th, 2007). During my terminal leave I intend to go to school for my CDL and then hopefully get hired on with a decent company before my active duty pay stops. This will allow me to have a smooth transition with little to no interruption in pay. My problem is this......one of the company recruiters I am in contact with told me that they will need my DD214 to verify my employment. No problem EXCEPT that it is not generated until my actual retirement date which is August 31st, 2007. Then it takes time for the fast and efficient government to process it and send it to me. In fact, I was told that I can expect it anywhere from a few weeks up to 9 months AFTER my retirement date. Is it correct that they NEED the DD214 for verification or could the recruiter have been mistaken??? I can get what we call a "Statement of Service" which is a letter drafted up by our military lawyers that shows my pay-grade, annual income, dates of service, and what clearance I hold (not sure what relevance the clearance is). This letter is very common and I have gotten them before when buying homes. Would this work? Also....if the military is not not part of your typical 10 year employment history, what do "they" do to very your employment? Why can't the same thing be done for me? Can any recruiters, ex-military, or ANYONE that may have first hand knowledge of this help me out here??? Your DD 214-1 (Member's Copy) is handed to you during your final out-processing appointment . . . I can't think of a single reason why it would not be. Your "fast and efficient government" wants you to receive it. If there's a problem, it's not with the "government" but with your servicing installation or Retirement Services Office. In some places they will even give you the complete DD 214 to include the -4 which lists Character Of Service. Call your Retirement Services Office, explain your situation and ask them to burn off the complete DD 214 when you retire in Aug 07. If they blow you off, ask your Sergeant Major or unit Commander to assist. Unless these people are all total jerks they'll be happy to help you out. During your final Finance appointment, you will also receive a letter from DFAS stating exactly how many years/months you served, and your retirement date. The two combined will allow a recruiter to deduce your PEBD. Even though you may not get a DD 214-4, a trucking company recruiter who's worth a $hit should know that you only get retirement pay for honorable service to the Nation. From reading your post, I had two concerns . . . the first is that someone is telling you that you won't get a DD 214. At your final retirement appointment, you should receive a US flag, various certificates of service which you can frame (including one for your spouse if married), the DD 214, a host of other goodies . . . and at least one solid hand-shake and a thank you. Second, I'm concerned that your recruiter is a nincompoop. Any single LES will show today's date and years of service. If the recruiter isn't smart enough, flexible enough or energetic enough to use the LES to get you in . . . maybe that's an indication that you're looking at the wrong company. Thank you for your Service to our Nation. Good luck to you.

Frogman, he is going on Terminal Leave a little over 2 and a half month before his actual retirement. They will not give him his DD 214 that early.
