HOBO,... I was starting with a couple of simple bolt actions that have a military background (assault weapon?)

Having a military background does not necessarily qualify as part of the definition, and I'm pretty sure that any bolt action weapon would be excluded.

Then I was going to move on to an AR15 and another rifle both are gas operated and same caliber, they just look different.

Gas operation and caliber do not (by themselves) rise to the full definiton. Depending on what "looks" you refer to... this could be at least part of the definition.

They
might... but, google is my friend.

and last but not least the machine gun. But thats not what you think either! It's an 1893 (I think) double barrel shotgun made by Prize Machine Gun hence the name,

Splitting hairs are we?
I don't know though.... didn't "Gatling" make other firearms besides what we know as the "Gatling gun?"

that would've fooled everyone, most would've guessed the AR or the Mini14.

I would have picked the AR-15 as an "assault weapon," but I'm informed enough to know that (without the conversion kit, at least,) it wouldn't be the machine gun. As for the Mini-14? Depends on which model you chose to picture. The original/basic model wouldn't qualify as either... though the Mini-14 T/R probably would qualify as an assault weapon, and the AC-556 model "might" (also) qualify as the machine gun (though not by the standard definition of one.)
How'd I do?
