This lightning bolt has probably given more "spark" to the discussion of religion than 2000 years of repeating the "commandments" and other beliefs.

If "I" were GOD.... I'd have done JUST THAT! What more proof would be needed? But, though the faithful hang on to any and every possible "act of God," .... NONE is forthcoming! :hellno:

What happened to the "burning bush" that didn't BURN?? IF this statue had been hit by lightining and burned but SURVIVED??? I would be converted immediately!

You can say all the "what if's" you want, Hoggie. But, you can't find a SINGLE "real" experience that proves his existence OR relativity.

I really WOULD like to "believe," Hoggie.... but.... your "GOD" hasn't responded to anything that has happened in History in my entire lifetime, and those before me.

His "chosen people" live in constant fear of attack in Israel. His "followers" have been executed and persecuted. His "creation" is at war with each other constantly.

I gotta say... NONE of his plans have worked out!

It's NOT a question of whether I'm a Liberal or a Conservative or a Centrist. I'm just an American. A HUMAN who feels alone and responsible on this planet. I can't DO much.... but, I don't expect some imaginary "guy in the sky" to do it FOR ME!

If I may interject here a bit. There will always be those who don't believe in what they see around them. Frankly, I think that the lightning hitting the statue was something of a miracle in itself. It could have hit the building or other things around it, but hit the statue of Christ. From my readings of the Bible I don't see anywhere that God will beat us over the head in order for us to believe. We are to come to him in faith, as children.

I believe that we are living in the final days. It has all be prophesied in the Bible. Things are coming together quickly. These prophesies were foretold thousands of years ago. Many have tried, but no man has EVER disproved anything in the Bible.

It was foretold that Israel would once again become a state in the final days. That happened in 1948. It was also foretold that "This generation will not pass" until the second coming of Christ. That generation is getting older. It is my generation. They call us "Baby Boomers." We have wars and rumors of wars. There are unusual weather patterns, natural disasters, etc., These have been taking place in recent years. It talks about China having an army of 200 million soldiers. They currently have an army of that size. It also discusses something about the yellow race ruling the world. China is on it's way to doing just that. They are rapidly replacing the U.S. as THE world power and the America is increasingly becoming irrelevant. I believe that for the final battle to take place and the last prophesies to happen the U.S. must be brought to her knees. The people of this country have turned their back on God. We have murdered more babies than Hitler did during WWII. We excuse it by calling it a choice.

The Bible is a book that is both historical and prophetic. I have been listening to a minister named John Ankerberg. He has been running a series about the final days. The last couple of weeks he has had an astronomer on the show. This morning he talked about the many galaxies in our universe and the odds of having a single earth that could support life. Out of all the millions or billions of stars and planets this is the only one that can support human life. That is pretty phenomenal. Just looking at the science of this happening with the odds of everything coming together to create a carefully woven system of interdependent life forms. I don't see how anyone could NOT believe in a GOD.

Science or man has NEVER been able to disprove the existence of GOD. Nor have they ever been able to explain the astronomical mathematical probability of everything coming together scientifically to make everything we know into existence without an omnipotent being. Even Darwin recounted his theory of evolution and of man evolving from apes before his death. You see, there is a big gap between apes and man, even though we do share some physical traits. The missing link should have been found by now if it existed. When you look around can you really think that all of this came into existence merely by accident? And who or what got everything started in the first place?

 

I don't see that an explanation is necessary. The statue was destroyed by lightning. You can interpret it anyway you wish. Some could say that he destroyed it because it was an idol. God forbids us from worshipping idols. Others might say that he destroyed it to get our attention. Perhaps it was done to send a message to that particular church. Maybe it was done to get people talking about him. I don't know the reason. I don't think that it was something that happened randomly, especially since it was supposed to have been made of fiberglass? That is not a material that normally attracts lightening.

About the best way I can sum it up, God is only revealing Himself to very few people. That's the way it's been, and that's the way it's going to be, until after the Second Coming.

It's not my place to teach, or enlighten anyone... but I can tell you I believe most Christians are not as close to God as they think.
The notion of God proving Himself with miricles... many Scriptures have shown how that has never worked for long, and made any difference.

Most of the traditional "worship" of God is against God. Only man pays any attention to statues, crosses, holidays, etc.
The "Chosen Ones" are living proof you can not have a relationship with God, with your back turned to Him.
Those people gave us many lessons of what not to do, and shown how all of us would do no better.
You can even be "chosen" by God, which is greater than calling you with a miricle, and look at all the lessons how that hasn't always worked either.
