Sadly, as most of the posts here (except Ridge's) show, most here apparently DO. :tears:

A week or so after the earthquake, I came here and was amazed that STILL there had been no thread or post about it! I did a search, and came up with ONLY my own post mentioning my Dad's involvement in a mission there on the "2010 predictions" thread. I couldn't believe it. Not a SINGLE member of CAD even wanted to mention it? I, personally, held off for fear of being accused of "bragging" about what my Dad was doing... and because I just wanted to see how long it would take before anyone here gave it a thought, and whether the tone would be what I expected. I was not surprised.

Yes. And I hope that if you are ever in a foreign country and a disaster strikes, someone will take you to THEIR hospital to save you (or your future child's) life. Ever see the show MASH? Even during wartime, our country (and others') have taken in even the ENEMY to try to save lives. It is one of the FEW redeeming qualities of humans.

Not true, of course. The uninsured here do it ALL the time.... and at a greater expense to the taxpayer than if we subsidized an insurance policy for them. This is ONE reason why healthcare will bankrupt our government if we don't reform it.

About 100 million so far pledged by our government on behalf of the taxpayers. A mere drop in the bucket compared to what Dubya promised the Iraqis to rebuild the infrastructure and society that WE destroyed by conducting our little war against terrorism in THEIR backyard. An amount SO insignificant that an equal amount was raised through charitable giving within the first week by citizens of this great country.

Well, when it comes to disaster aid, our government has not been SHY about helping OUR OWN. But, as your question pertains to why we can't help our own UNINSURED citizens get healthcare? Simple answer: The party of NO.

America, as Ridge said, will ALWAYS come to the aid of others when disaster strikes. If that poses a problem for you due to your belief in the inequity of our OWN "status quo" healthcare industry / policies.... then, you must be in favor of "change." The only team offering that change is Obama and the Dems.

I'm not saying that the GOP has not presented some good ideas at long last. But, where were those ideas since the time they killed HillaryCare when they took over congress mid-Clinton administration? 12 years with no relief, and suddenly.... when they see the writing on the wall.... they have all these IDEAS to counter Obamacare? "Disingenuous" is the BEST word I can use to describe their "efforts."

No, really! The ORIGINAL form of this racial epithet contains NO mention of wild animals. It just mentions the HUMANS in our country who live off welfare and continue to "breed" more of the same. In closing MY rant on this subject (for now) I'd just like to relay one thing my father noticed while over there. Nothing new.... we've heard it on CNN. But, everytime an aftershock hit, the people would run out of whatever building they were in because they feared more death and destruction. And IMMEDIATELY upon realizing they were STILL alive, they would break out into songs of praise to God for his benevolence and deliverance. No cussing him. No complaining. Just worship and praise.

For citizens of OUR country, who claim to be incensed by the lack of morality and godliness in our society.... who BOAST of their faith and adoration of the God they claim was the foundation of our country.... to exhibit the level of distrust, disgust and disaffection for the highly religious and moral people of Haiti... in their time of need... well, it just sickens me. And proves everything I know to be true about a certain 'segment' of our society that I liken to the Pharisees of old.

[Of course, I'm not referring to anyone here on CAD! Probably just talking about them "teabaggers!"]

 

I dislike that we're helping another country when ours isn't looking too good itself internally but at least the Haitians will appreciate the aid we are giving them and that's what matters. Helping most folks in this country is a joke anymore, they don't appreciate it or say thank you. The Haitians will remember this and if the table is ever turned one could only hope they'd return the favor. I can understand them not helping us with our diasters, they are a 3rd world country that doesn't have any money to offer.

BTW... I thanked you for your outreach of the Haiti aide and your Dad's involvement, and the post you refer to was in my thread. You are not the only one who has genuine charity in your heart. Again you take the opportunity to put down the Christian faith, but you are the one who comes across as the hypocritical self-righteous bastard. If you have such an important message to offer...start your own thread. :roll:

I think you misread me, Hoggie. Or misunderstand my admonitions to those "of faith"..... as Jesus often did. As I've said before, perhaps I've learned too well the skills of "stepping on toes" that my father has perfected over the years. Jesus was never afraid to chastise those who thought themselves "righteous" under the old Jewish Law. NOT because he didn't LOVE them, but because he needed to make them THINK.

I suppose I have no RIGHT to do so. EXCEPT for the fact that I felt the "calling" so many years ago. Of course, I rejected it because I didn't feel "worthy." I am not PIOUS enough to be a spokesperson for God. So WHY does he invade my thoughts and dictate poetry of a religious nature? Why does he give me a voice that can ONLY sing songs of praise? WHY does he give me biting words to "convict" people on the internet who have become comfortable in their "religious" ways?

Why do "I" suffer for my beliefs that we, as a people, are not doing ENOUGH to be the "Samaritan?" Or to suffer the children to come unto him? Why am "I" ridiculed for believing that ALL we have is given through grace from God, and should be shared with those who have naught?

I don't even KNOW if I can "claim" to be a Christian. But, I know that the definition is "One who is Christ-like." I have tried all my life to BE such a person. And YOU DO NOT STAND IN JUDGEMENT OF ME.

It is no wonder that we, as a country, are so hated around the world. WE have it all. WE have the good life.... no one else should have it. WE are all that this EARTH is all about. I'm glad you enlightened me. :hellno:

 

Thank you. And, yes.... it is an ongoing joke. Windy (how apropos) complains about my posts being too long for him to read, yet he reads them and responds. (usually with even longer posts.) And there was some mention of him having a bladder problem as far as sitting long enough to read my posts. When I refer to his "attention span," I am joking about his ability to hold his bladder through my "windy" posts. And this "joking" has been going on for SOME time.

I am trying my best, Hoggie, to control my biting wit when responding to the FEW posts that I choose to. Under penalty of death from Twilight, and ever-increasing condemnation from YOU, I am doing my best to leave any personal insults (which were NEVER meant, but sometimes reactionary) out of my responses and discussions.

In short, I am not free to be me, which explains my diminished participation lately. And now, it seems, even THAT is not enough. Freedom of Speech has become as rare and "endangered" here as it EVER was in any "socialist" or "totalitarian" society.

Timberwolf and a few others who, like me, chose to present a differing opinion have been "run off" NOT by any misconduct by the moderators.... but, by an overwhelming wave of alienation by the Conservative "faithfull."

No I don't care and the rest of the world pretty much does not give a fig about the US except as an endless spigot of aid. Haiti is a s**thole. Always has been and always will be. Thank you France for leaving it like that. The US has pored over $3 Billion into that stinkhole and its still the worst country in the western hemisphere.

The USA is the greatest country on the face of the planet because we made it like that. Its not our obligation to prop up or send our money to other countries that can't fix themselves. The American People have stepped up like they always do and have thrown tens of millions of donations in that direction. Let me keep my dwindling tax dollars here at home to help myself. At a time when the messiah has proposed the largest budget with the largest deficit in the history of the world we are broke. We have no money. Borrowing from China to send it to Haiti is not only fiscally irresponsible its downright stupid.

 

I almost fell asleep trying to read all of Hobo's post. :yawn: Anyhow, this country cant take care of our own problems but yet we run to save everybody else. Bulls**t !!!!!!!!!!!! We have homeless, starving families and veterans in our own country that we don't take care of. We are trillions of dollars in dept but we just give money away? Bulls**t.... We can't keep out own borders and streets safe but we are gonna save the rest of the world? Bulls**t !!!!!!! Why can't we take care of our own country and our own people first? Most of the countries that we help couldn't care less about us until they want a hand out. I am so pissed about what is happening with our country right now. I feel the same way but still made a donation and will probable give more. What I don't understand is way we apparently were supposed to get on here and mention the fact that we gave to Haiti, Why? I don't remember having to declare any donations for Katrina or the tsunami so Hobo why this and why now?
