GMAN:

I apologize if I came off as insulting to you. I didn't mean it that way. I have a lot of respect for you and some of your opinions.

I'm just sick and tired of hearing how anyone who voted against McCain/Palin is "scared to death" of her! We're NOT!

I don't really understand WHAT it is y'all see in her. But I guarantee that IF she has any redeeming qualities.... it is NOT that she somehow "scares" us!

The ONLY thing about her that scares us, is how close she came to being one heart attack away from the Presidency!

You are free to express your opinions, golfhobo. I don't think that those who voted against her are scared of her. I do think that her political adversaries do fear her, not necessarily as a person, but her values and ideals. It seems that when liberals find someone who's ideals are not the same as their own then they tend to attack the individual, not the ideals. The thing that scares liberals about Sara Palin is that the issues and ideals that she shares are those of most Americans. It involves the basic issues of freedom, personal responsibility and of a smaller government. It includes protecting those ideals at all costs. There was little said about her values and voting record, or how she ran her state. It was a continuous attack of her and her family. There was more said about her over spending of a wardrobe (at the insistance of the GOP) than real issues. I agree that she may not be as polished as Obama and some of the other career politicians. But she knows how to run a business and earn an honest living. Most of the politicians we have in Washington have no idea of how to earn a living, even the president. He never held a real job in his life, yet he is now our elected president. Personal attacks are not new to liberals or the Obama administration. Just look back at Clinton. Now there was a master of destroying the opposition whether the issues or statements were true or not.

As far as the appeal of Sara Palin is concerned it is very simple. We see her as someone who has values and isn't afraid to speak out about important issues. She expresses her values without taking a poll to see what she should say to get the best sound byte. One reason she may come of as unpolished is due to which sound bytes the media chooses to use. The fact that she is not a career politician is another great appeal to many of us. Biden, Obama, Pelosi and most of the other politicians are there to get what they can. Few of then have ever held a real job. They are not in touch with this country or what is right and wrong. That is obvious in the way they conduct themselves. I don't think it affects only the liberals, either. There are a number of republicans who need to go home as well. Most of them stay much longer than needed. Most come out much richer than when they entered office. She comes across as knowing right from wrong. It is obvious that Obama and the liberals want to change America. They want an all powerful government with citizens reliant on that government for their livelihood and existence. I too would like to see change. However, the change that I would like to see is to get rid of most of the government and go back to a constitutional form of government. The primary function of our government should be to protect this country. Our government was originally set up to provide a basic framework to take care of the nations business. That did not include taking over businesses or providing an income for millions of citizens and illegals. I think she espouses those values. She doesn't think that government should be so powerful. She seems to believe that a smaller government is better. Government should work for the people. Today, the people work for the government.

I don't mean to get up on my soapbox so much. I suppose that I have been doing much more of that lately. I am just fed up with these people pushing all this spending down our throats. I am tired of Obama trying to fashion this government after the old Soviet Union with all of his Czars. He is setting himself up to become a true dictator. I don't recall another president since I have been around that has pushed for so much power. For someone who is supposed to be so smart, someone needs to tell him that socialism didn't work in the Soviet Union or countless other states and it won't work here. Socialism has broken every country that has tried it.

You don't know me, and I don't know you.... so, I'll play nice.

I wouldn't say that Obama is "my man." Right up close to the end, I was still seriously considering McCain because he is a MODERATE who shares SOME of my views and has more experience than any of the other candidates.

He LOST me when he picked Palin for the most transparent and shallow of reasons!

He lost me even MORE, when he stumbled and bumbled through the townhall debates.

I don't like everything Obama is doing. I don't blame him for SOME of it, as a pile of chit was dumped in his lap.

Considering that I am anti Conservative (ONLY because of the stance THEY take,) anti Moral Majority and anti "Big Business fellatiating" Republicans.... and as a "registered" Democrat.... I had a choice between Obama and Hillary!

Between the two of THEM?? Yes.... I am glad it was Obama instead of HER. I am in agreement with MANY here who are dismayed at the choices BOTH parties have presented in recent years. Mostly, I despair that ALL politics are so partisan.

I am a "Centrist" who believes there is room to accomodate ALL views within our government, and would like to find common ground to solve problems without "disenfranchising" half the population with every decision our government makes. Unfortunately... the lobbyists and PACS and "interest groups" don't share my tolerance.

Do I LIKE Obama? Yes. Do I like everything he is doing? No. But, neither do I like what has happened in the last 8 years under Bush. I'm a capitalist, but I cannot tolerate the greed and corruption that was "subsidised" under his administration. I am NOT for tax breaks to the richest, (paid with taxpayer dollars) particularly the CEO's of corporations, who make BILLIONS in profits while shipping the "middle class" overseas!

Like GMAN, I am a Constitutionalist who believes the government should protect us from ALL enemies both foreign AND domestic. I am of the opinion that class warfare was STARTED in this country by the upper class! If it takes more government to combat them, well.... that is better than an armed revolution like the one that ended the reign of Louis 14th!

But, make no mistake.... a revolution is coming. Madoff and his ilk are going DOWN! Dick Cheney and the Halliburton's of this country are going to be held accountable. Ken Lay and Enron was just the first volley of the war. "USURY" is against the law.... and the credit card companies/banks will yield! No one is against "profit making," but Americans are not real fond of "oppression."

I doubt Obama will effect HALF the "change" he intends. But, I have no doubt that he has awakened America to the NEED for change and has galvanized the force FOR it. Whether he gains a second term or not is immaterial to me, as long as the country "corrects" the path that it has been on lately.

I LOVE this country. I want the best opportunity for ALL its citizens. I want what is FAIR.... not welfare! I want STRENGTH in the world.... but, not through intimidation and underhanded dealings behind closed doors. I want to BE that "shining light" but it comes only through example.

I DARE say that, I want what YOU want. We are BOTH.... and ALL.... Americans!

Hobo

How do you feel about companies that send their mail-in rebates to the people who made the original purchase? I hate that. :lol2:

Yeah, how dare they use taxpayer dollars to give tax breaks to the people who pay most of the taxes in the first place. It's unfair, I tell ya! Somebody ought to come in and promise tax breaks to the people who aren't even paying any taxes at all! Unless of course they shop at Wal Mart, because then they would be shipping jobs overseas. That would be the right thing to do! Maybe this Palin character can give us hope for this kind of change!

Screw the "REBATE" thing altogether. Just lower the price tag.
What's so damned difficult about that?

Oh, not everybody sends for the rebate, so they get o keep a larger share.

Dear Hobo,

Please keep in mind the fact that for the rest of us, even an "air-head" would be far better than the current "business as usual". You voted for a "change". You got a change. The President has darker skin, and the price tag went from $154 Billion to $3.7 Trillion. And, don't expect anything else to change.

OH, we'll get "clean air" legislation, and overlook other things that will affect our environment, like the liquid hydrogen that escapes into the atmosphere. Hydrogen is one half the atomic weight of helium, and filters up in our atmosphere to the outer reaches of earth's envelope, and from there, lost in space forever. So, for each molecule we lose, we lose that much of our water supply.

But that's not in vogue right now, so nothing is going to be done about that.

Palin would have been a change. Obama is simply more of the same.
