Sorry, these questions aren't related to trucking. But, I'm asked them all the time, to the point of annoyence...

It's questions about my dogs... I'm always asked one of two questions...

1) Are they Dobermans?...

2) Are they Miniature Pinschers?...

Considering the fact they are neither breed, and are GERMAN PINSCHERS, (which while rare in the US, are on the AKC, and UKC list of purebreds. Also, the fact that my male stands 20" at the shoulders and is 41lbs., and my female stands 17" at the shoulders and is 27lbs.).

Anyone who knows anything about Dobermans, or, Min Pins would never confuse my dogs with either. But, unfortunatley, all they see are the markings, and ASSUME they are one of those two breeds...

I've had it asked so much, that when I say, "No they're not", to either question.

The next obvious question is asked, and I grit my teeth knowing it is coming... "Well, what are they?"...

Where depending on my mood, I either, tell them. Or, tell them to go look them up in a dog breed book. Or, I simply reply... "They're just dogs."...

Where upon I get the expected look that I have offended them... NOT, that they have offended me, by not first politely, and properly introducing themselves in the first place. Before assuming that I am just there to give them information, as though I'm an information booth, and then continue on their way... :x

But, the fact is when you've been asked literally hundreds of times the same question. You get sick of hearing it. At one point I stopped taking my dogs where there would be a crowd of people, just for that reason... But, I'm over that now...

Someone told me I should reply with, "If you want to know what they are, that will be $5.00...

If I got paid $5.00 for everytime I've been asked these two questions, I could retire a very wealthy woman...

How is that a stupid question?

Seriously, if they look anything like minpins then what the heck, people will ask what they are. A stupid question would be, "Are those dogs?"

They are ALL members of the Pinscher family and they DO look alike. You said yourself they are rare in the US, so it's pretty presumptuous of you to expect everyone to know the AKC or UKC standards of your dog.

Just an observation, but usually people who have something "rare" want the attention it brings and enjoy talking about it. That's why they have it.

This happened at work today...Not really a stupid question but a funny story.

Newbie truck driver fueling for the first time. Couldn't figure out how to turn the pump on so he comes inside to ask. Knowing I have no patience for stupid people, my manager goes out to show him how to use the pump. Pull the lever UP!

Our diesel islands have a main pump and a satellite so you can fuel from both sides. You have to turn the main pump on to use the satellite, not hard right? He pumps $180.00 worth of fuel and stops. I'm watching the monitor and the guys pulling away. (Yes drive offs happen!) By the time I get outside he's turned the truck around and is pulling back in. When I asked him what he was doing he said he had to fill the tank on the other side. I couldn't help myself. "Why didn't you use the pump on other side?" I asked. "I forgot how", he answered.   I went back inside.

When he came in to pay he asked for a cash advance on his T-Check, so I asked him how much he wanted. He said he wasn't sure because he had to stay in a motel and since he'd never stayed in a motel before how much did I think he would need.

There was no Company name on the truck. I just want to know who stuck this guy in a truck and let him out of Indiana?

Four more days and I'm done!

Well, wasn't expecting negative comments.

I didn't get a "rare" breed dog to get attention. I got them because they had been abused by a bad breeder, and I rescued them. Obtaining any animal for the sake of "showing it off" is not a reason to get any animal, period. :x

Considering they also had issues because of the abuse. I have worked harder than your average dog owner to help them over come their abuse, and have given them a safe, loving, compassionate home...

Considering they come in several different colors, and my female is a "Red"... They don't all look the same.

Photos do not do justice as to what the dogs look like. Since most people are familiar with Dobermans, and Min Pins, to consider these two either is just stupid. That's my opinion...

Rotties, and other breeds of dog have similiar markings to the "black and tan" of some Pinschers, doesn't make them a Doberman, or a Min Pin does it...

Thankfully, several people just say, "What beautiful dogs you have". Or, "How well behaved your dogs are.", and I thank them... That I appreciate considering how hard I've worked to give these two dogs the best health, life, home, and owner they could ever want...

Anyway, have a nice day all...
