Send the Special Forces in and get the Brits out then nuke the crap out of them. Or have a full scale invasion with a bombardment just like WW2.

Well, it seems as if the majority of Brits are as deranged as the conservatives in America.... and MANY on this board.

1) Britain no longer has the "independance" to NUKE anyone! They will not act without tacit approval from the U.S. That's just a fact.

2) Nuking an entire country, MOST of whom want this "Revolutionary Government" overthrown, is in NO ONE's best interest. For ONE thing, who would then export the oil from Iran which fuels approx 40% of the World??

3) Britain has had soldiers captured before, as have WE. they are NOT as close to war over this as you seem to think. They are "rattling sabres." Britain has not "gone to war" with anyone other than the Falkland Islands since WWII! And they WON'T go to war with Iran BY THEMSELVES for this, or any other reason (other than an invasion of their soil.)

4) Like it or not, the concept of MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) now applies to many Third World countries as well. We are on the brink of a new, and more expansive, Cold War. We will prevail ONLY if we can muster the DIPLOMATIC "strength" of Reagan again, and abandon the "Buckaroo" bravado of Bush.

5) The Brits have been targeted as much or more than we in recent years. But, I am sorry to see that the civilization who "originated" foreign diplomacy, has degraded into the guntoting "Reactionaries" of the American Wild West.

6) What do I think? I think this will be settled diplomatically, as all such "infractions" are. And when it is.... I hope the Brits are ashamed of themselves for even proposing such an idea.

 

WE did not put this Revolutionary government in power. You MIGHT say that we "helped" by not defending the Shah (who we DID put in power) when the Revolution came. But, then again, we didn't stop the October Revolution, either!

As I recall, we did NOT help Saddam come to power either. The fact that we helped him fight Iran, is another story alltogether.

The problem with America is that we ONLY jump in and help when OUR interests are involved. You would think that a country that fought for the right of self determination would have gotten involved at a time when it might have made a difference. Unfortunately, we quickly became "isolationists" and only get involved in a reactionary manner.

As this tends to "isolate" the opposition in a sovereign country, we are seen as "propping up" the despotic forces that abuse the democratic voice of the people. And we become hated.

To protect OUR OWN interests, we have sold out the souls of the oppressed. For this, we are rightfully "damned."

 

Which would have included how many American hostages as casualties??

Luckily, the majority of YOUR type, voted for Reagan instead, and the hostages were returned alive.

The problem with America is that, once a crisis is averted, we forget about the root problem and "move on" to another "square" in the chess game.

Even Reagan was guilty of this. But, I will give him credit for one major triumph. He stayed after the Soviet Union.... and BROKE it! He single handedly broke down the wall, and reunited thousands of families. He did not bring about World Peace. But, he moved us farther away from war and brought a semblance of LIFE to many oppressed people.

He did this by addressing the ROOT of the problem. And by applying an "untiring" force of diplomacy. It was, in fact, HE.... not Kruschev.... who won the war without firing a shot!

Kruschev has gone the way of Stalin. Reagan stands with the likes of Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt.

Anyone who cries "Nuke 'Em!!" has learned NOTHING from History, and is a danger to the future of the Human race.
