I agree about 'not sacrificing American lives for this war'. Absolutely, wholeheartedly.

I do not agree, however, about just 'boming the whole place up'.

You do know there are many children in those countries, do you not? What have they done to deserve such treatment? How about the old folks there? How about those who have nothing to do with the war or with muslim extremism?

I'm going to have to think about that. I don't think we should kill the kids and stuff but we have to keep our troops from getting killed to. What do you think would happen to those kids and those people if we left?

This is a very complex moral/ethical/political issue way too deep for this forum and very off topic for this thread....

but......

it IS a war...and unfortunately, in war, non-combatants (children, elderly and other so-called "innocents") frequently suffer or die unnecessarily (or out of proportion to their participation or, by lack of opposition to actions against us, tacit complicity in same).
However, WE must prevail...with the least possible cost to us. In my opinion, the cost is too great to sacrifice American lives (equally or more "innocent" than ANY occupant of that land) to achieve our objectives when we have the technical wherewithal to accomplish our objectives without so much cost to us.
The fire bombings of Dresden and Hamburg are historical examples of these kinds of actions which actually had little strategic or tactical value, but were done nonetheless.
By "pacifying" that entire area in the manner I propose we would also greatly diminish the likliehood of having to bleed ourselves slowly there for many more years.

Sorry to digress and be so off-topic...perhaps we should start a thread/poll: Nuke the mideast ???

you guys really believe a 'carpet' bomb would be the answer here?

I understand the war concept, somewhat. Yes, innocent people always die in wars.

But what is next? Korea? How about Somalia?

where does it stop? can we kill ALL muslim extremists? Well yeah, I wish we could , really, but I don't know if it is possible.

Glad to see a politics thread without any slander..... yet. 2008 is going to be another odd year, voting against the person you don't want to see as president rather than voting for the person you want as president.

Ever hear what Barack Obama's middle name is? His middle name is Hussein. So his last name is very similar to O sama and his middle name is the same as the former Iraq dictator. He is a great speaker and very inspirational but when the political adds hit every one is going to associate him with O sama and Sadam. Hate to say that but thats what will happen.

I will not make up my mind till I see how the Democrats handle the leadership in congress, If they do well I will probably go Democrat depending on who they select for the presidential candidate. But if they start the stupid issues like they are doing now with minimum wage I'll go Republican, depending on who they select.

If I had to pick one now, I like Rudy. Rudy is a republican but also has liberal views. On the downside Rudy has skeletons in his closet.

I would also like to add 2008 might be a good year for Gore to try again.

didn't know that about Obama. I am sure people will pick up on that soon enough...

Gore? I don't think he's going to run, do you?

and yes, I agree about the democratic nonsense. They will have to come up with real solutions instead of just blaming the reps and instead of fixing 'little' problems.

I don't think Gore is looking to run but I haven't read anything about him not running. I don't know maybe he has stated he has no desire to run 2008..... not sure? Who ever takes the job is going to have a very difficult job, we are in a mess in the middle east and it's only going to get worse.
