The driver shortage has always been pipe dream created by the corporate greed. PAY SHORTAGE is one problem. The union companies have no problem keeping drivers for 5-10-20 -30 yrs. J.B,Schndr, swift Werner and the rest of them do. They get government subsidies to train displaced factory workers who our government outsourced their jobs overseas.Send'em to govenment welfare truck driver training agencies, put 'em on the road and keep turnover high wages low.How many foreigners do you hear about getting tax or interest free loans, grants, whatever to start a small business, lease purchase whatever. Another problems is hours of service, theywon't pay you for your hours of service or overtime. Freight handling/lumpers what another scam, hire dockworkers to unload your freight if you want it. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS YOU PEOPLE WON'T STICK TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELVES. STOP WORKING YOU CAN'T STRIKE YOU'RE NOT UNION! AGREE UPON ONE THING ACROSS THE BOARD PAY RATES FOR ALL DRIVERS, REGARDLESS OF WHAT COMPANY YOU WORK FOR.

Mexican labor....mostly illegal.

Mexican Drivers....driving OTR for .19/mile.

Look folks, let's call them what they are.

They're slaves. We pay them very little. They work for that pay. As long as no-one complains, all was OK.

Now, they want more pay.....and rights. "we must be paid a equal wage" is the battle cry as the slaves fight for their own financial freedom....

But the Masters whom give them their bunkhouses cracks the whip, and screams, "Do thy bidding, you worthless slaves, and count yourself lucky I don't send ya back to your homeland! You shall take the pennies I give you, and be damm happy while I take your women for my own amusement......"

Now the slaves see their loving Master for what he really is. A money hungry operation who will use them for what they truly are......

Slavery in America-the Second Chapter: Coming from Mexico.

If I'm not mistaken..... Shawnee is a Candian (Canadienne?) And the EAST Indians referred to are those from the country of INDIA. A little reading comprehension goes a LONG, LONG way on this board.

As for the American Indian..... I can't say I agree. Although, I feel for them, they had no "ownership papers" for the land, and MANY of them migrated to America from other parts of the World, "taking" the land from any who might have gotten here first.... by force of WAR. We really did no different to them than we did when we took the SouthWest from Mexico! (or than they did to other tribes.)

England, France, Germany, Italy, Russia...... ALL major European civilizations have done the same to others throughout history.... not to mention the Chinese and Mongols, the Arabs, Japanese..... and on and on!

Neither Freedom NOR land ownership are "inalienable rights." That is why Freedom so often comes at so great a PRICE.

Sorry, Clugborn, but I gotta disagree. Slaves do NOT get paid, nor do they work for MONEY.

At this time of "reflection" on the struggle that cost Martin Luther King, Jr. his life.... I think it is a bit dismissive to confuse the issue. As you are surely proud of the heritage of YOUR people, it is not fair to ignore the truth about slavery and the heritage of most African Americans.

What you refer to is more properly compared to Serfdom in Olde England, or the Caste System in India.

When slavery was abolished in America, the "Capitalists" begrudgingly instituted the "class" of sharecroppers, and just as they do now, put every obstacle they could in the path of those who aspired to land ownership and any measure of wealth. From the very beginning of our country, even in the "free areas" of the North, immigrants were all BUT "indentured" to the "haves" for their very meager livelihood. This great "experiment" in Capitalism was nothing more than a continuation of the feudal policies of England.

Don't get me wrong.... I am NOT a Socialist. But, I don't see that (other than the improvements won by Unionization,) the "American Dream" is anymore available or INTENDED for EVERY American than it has been for lower classes in most countries of the World.

America is today, and has always been, not much different than the Caste systems, and Feudal systems experienced by every other country throughout history.

As for the ILLEGAL immigrants.... I wish they WERE slaves! That way, some brave Congressmen could "emancipate" them, and send them all to some distant land (say..... MEXICO?) to create their OWN Free State!

I am against Illegal Immigration, and I want it STOPPED! But, I find it hard to actually blame them for it. Given the economics of their country, they could be considered, in International language, "economic refugees." The problem lies with the "LORDS" in this country who are not only willing but EAGER to replace the "rebelious" lower class Americans with a NEW source of cheap labor to help line thier pockets with even MORE wealth, all the while squeezing the NEW "Middle Class" OUT of the labor market.... perhaps with an eye to forcing them BACK to where they "belong" (according to the greedy LORDS.)

I just heard (again) the clip of John McCain referring to MLK as a "bigger man." This is what is sorely lacking in this country today. The very rich and the overpaid CEO's of major industries are SMALL men.... living in BIG houses!! They are no different than the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, but never "got" the meaning of the story! I think it has something to do with penis envy!

I'm sure, by now, the meaning of this post is lost. I have been known to "ramble" at times. (Surprise!  ) I just wanted to make a distinction between SLAVERY and the economic struggle of the impoverished throughout the World..... and especially here in this GREAT country of "opportunity" and EQUALITY.

P.S. Just as I was posting this, I saw a "banner" on CNN below a story about the "transition of the White House." It read..... KEYS TO THE CASTLE. Need I say more?

I was not looking to "coorect" you, Josborn!

I mostly enjoy your radical posts. Like most of us, I just have things I want to say, and it is easier when I can "relate" them to a previous post.

I think I understood your underlying sentiment. But, I must admit that I don't always know which side of an issue you are on!

At any rate.... keep on posting! I NEED the material!

Well, you'll enjoy this. And I think most would agree....

I'm feeling part slave myself, with the prices of everything going up, and the wages going down.

I guess cutting the wages down turned on them as well.....

I'm not sure what to think about the future....however, I do know this. None of the idiots running for president will have any impact on returning the economy back to better days. If nothing more happens, we will be damn lucky.

However, it's going to get worse. Then you got idiot Mexican labors working for half price....they might as well work for free....

Somedays, I feel that I do.....
