Just to clear up a couple things.

DDC filters are generally made by Donaldson, the new DD15 engine is an exception.

CAT nylon plastic inner liners are actually more expensive than standard tin plate liners used by most of the industry.

Of the 3 c12's I have seen in the last 2 years with the pistons in the bore sideways and the block damaged and - well essentially the engine shot to the point where only a shortblock or longblock is an acceptable repair - they ALL have run Baldwin filters. Did the filter cause it? I can't say but I do know that 3 engines and 3 sets of Baldwins - I wouldn't take those odds - just something I noticed is all.

The new CAT DPF engines - you MUST run exactly what CAT specifies and that is the CAT filter.

Those failures are likely caused by the freed wrist pin retainer getting lodged between the piston skirt and cylinder wall.

Bob, yeah that was the cause but like I said of the ones we have seen EACH AND EVERYONE was running Baldwins. Just something I noticed.

We won't even stock them here. You are pretty much limited to CAT or Fleeguard.

Last two fleetguard fuel filters i've used plugged up at about 7K miles.

Had to change 'em twice on the road.


I bought me a original DD filters that ran me ONLY 2$ more than a piece of sh!t fleetguard fuel filters..

Their oil filters are alright, but them fuel ones are really crappy..

so........ you feel that you would be better off if those fuel contaminants were NOT trapped by a filter? If a filter is "plugged up", ...it has done its job.


The only time that fuel filter plugging is an ISSUE is;

1. if the micron rating of the filter is too low.

2. if the fuel system is NOT properly maintained.

I.e. - either you've installed the wrong filter. Or the fuel system is full of dirty, contaminated, and/or water-saturated fuel.
