I was just at the Cat shop and they told me the biggest complaint that they get on their filters is that they plug up to fast. Think about it isn't that what a filter is suppose to do. If the filter never plugs up is it really doing it's job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and my destroyit gets ddc filters, and my cummins gets fleetguard, and my gm gets delco.......... i'm quite pig-headed about this stuff : (

I know for a fact that Caterpillar filters are not made by Wix.

Watch out what you say. I work for a truck parts store in Oregon and Washington and we are a Baldwin Distributer. All of the major filter brands (Cat, Wix, Fleetgaurd, Baldwin,...) all buy out from each other. It is impossible for them to produce this many diffrent filters. Try cutting open a few diffrent filters, you might be suprised at what you find.

each year, i cut open at least 30 different filters; different makes, part #s, applications, etc.............

............ maybe you should tell me which one you think is similar in construction to a cat brand filter, because it is obvously one that i have never encountered

o.k. i know that i cannot tell which oil filter is better by looking at 2 of them cut open on a display counter. why ? because i dont know what i'm looking for or how it filters when in actual use. but i can tell you when i change oil in my detroit when using fleetguard... i notice the oil gets black after couple thousand miles. with the donaldson filters, the oil stays cleaner looking longer. i have done this dozens of times. always the same result. it appears to me, in my unscientific test ... that the donaldson filter.. filters better than fleetguard..

and again..., use ddc filters on your ddc engine - fleetguard is designed for cummins diesels imo, maybe donaldson makes ddc filters ???

when i do an oil change on any of my diesels (6.2L through 14.6L pre-egr diesels), the engine oil is black again by the time i have oil pressure =)

You need to consider how big Caterpillar is, and the amount of earth moving equipment they produce and have in service.

Their Huge.... 3rd quarter of 06 they employed 93,000+
