TMC

The fact is TMC is a high quality commpany, you can ses that when you look at the fleet and the professionalism of the drivers. Drivers that work at TMC carry themselves with pride. There is a reason why TMC has one of the lowest turn over rates in the industry. In reference to complaints about tarp pay, tarping is part of the job as a flat bedder. You can cry all you want about wanting paid more for tarping, but if you can throw a tarp over a load in less than an hour thats $10 an hour. It's all part of the job. If you dont like it go run van and wait at customers for hours and have low weekly miles. Bottom line you want to come to work and drive you will make great money at TMC. The median income last year for a TMC driver was $54,000, not bad.

I miss TMC too and may return there in the spring.

Fred
Really hated to see you go in the first place.

For all you that are waiting on loads and think that it is bad, right now feel lucky that if you are having to wait 9 or even 10 hours before load time at least you have a load. Yesterday there were 450 loads short and today major layovers for alot of drivers. You think that we are the only carrier out there, the only flatbed carrier out there... Stop the whinning because the simply fact is this is the winter time and all of you that have been through one season know that freight is slow.... damn slow right now. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad... sure we have to tarp in the wind, rain, snow... WE ARE FLATBEDDERS... Traffic sure it sucks... Food nobody told you that you have to eat in truckstops 99% of the time... have any of you attempted to pull your truck into a Ryans or any other restruant... and ya know alot of them enjoy having trucks stop there. Next time you deliver at a Lowes or Home Depot just look around quite a few near these places. OK I'll get off my soapbox for now but every driver or fomer driver from TMC can tell you this all in all TMC is overall a good company.

By the way I got unloaded at 8 AM this morning and don't get reloaded until 9PM a cheap load of steel in upstate New York... Yep Fred I am in New York near Buffalo

Please don't consider me a whiner. I am being objective...according to my own opinions. My objectivity on this forum has probably been more responsible for drivers signing on the TMC dotted line than some of the unmitigated "TMC is Perfect" posters.

And if it takes you two hours that is $5.00 per hour, then you have to untarp and secure it. Now you make maybe $4.00 per hour. You do all of this whatever the weather and whatever the load is. It can be very dangerous. All for $4.00 to $10.00 per hour. I think it is a legitiment concern for those of use who do it.

Your previous post on the good and the bad was perfect. My feelings are that someone needs to give both sides and let those who are trying to decide on a career make an informed choice. Although I will often give the negatives as I see them it is because there are plenty who give only the positive.

Fred, who says I am here to bash TMC is wrong. He actually started a cheerleaders website for TMC BEFORE he even started working for them! He never gave the bad points and conned a lot of newbies into thinking that TMC was the dream job of any driver. TMC is not for most new drivers and they should get all the facts before becoming indentured to them.

There are aspects in ALL jobs that people doing them dont like and often feel they should get compensated more for. the bottom line is in comparison to other trucking companies out there TMC is not by any means a cheap company. the drivers get the proper training they need to do the job effectively. and once in a truck those willing to work see the results $$$.

There might be 20-25% of the tarped loads we have that may take over an hour. Mainly large lumber loads and also some vinyl siding. For the most part once properly trained ahouldnt take you more than an hour to tarp a load. If you feel it is too dangerous dont do flat bed.
