Thanks for the info on the other carriers as well.

BTW Caledonia Haulers runs quite a bit of Midwest to the Northeast. My Brother in law drives for them and winds up running from WI to New Hampshire, Vermont, Maryland, DC and Mass. He's one of the drivers who doesn't complain too much about where he goes so he winds up there. He doesn't really care for most of that area. They say no NYC but you'll wind up in that area passing through, at least he has.

Default Hey Coach...

It never came through. It will probably be easier to just email me at [email protected] It's much easier to reach me that way since I don't have readily available computer access, and I can do mail over my phone.

Well, folks... it looks like I will be adding alittle more to Cyanide's tanker thread in a week or two.

Due to completely "personal" circumstances related to the "homefront" it became necessary for me to leave CFI and take a driving position that enables me to stay closer to home and get home much, much more often.

As some of you may be aware, Cyanide and I have been friends for a number of years....since we both drove for CTL a long time ago.... Well, I had spoken to him about my situation, and he suggested that I speak with his terminal manager.... and lo and behold they accepted my application, checked me out and hired me. I am now in Garden City (Savannah) GA, and a new employee of "Superior Transport"....and officially a "Tanker Yanker" once again. I am leaving out of here for a few days of "familiarization" riding with one of their trainers to get me up to speed with their system, the paperwork, and a refresher for me on tankers and bulk hazmat procedures. Then I will be on my own pulling a tanker again.

I'm really looking forward to this new position and the adventures that follow.... Right about now I'm glad I kept my hazmat endorsement!!

I would like to add that I did not leave CFI mad, nor did I quit because I was unhappy there. I left because I had to on a purely personal basis. Were I not faced with what I am now on that personal level, I would still be driving for CFI. I will also state that as far as "dry van" companies are concerned: It is my opinion that CFI is still the best thing going and will recommend them completely both for students and experienced drivers!!

Skywalker, congratulations to you. Reading Cyanide's tanker adventures makes me want to pull a tanker if and/or when i start a driving career. Do you recommend sarting out driving bulk or do you think it would be best to get driving experience pulling a van and then move to a tanker company? Also, would you advise getting the HAZMAT endorsement when I first get my CDL even if not initially required, or should I get it later when needed?

Hey Coach ! If you can get into tankers immediately (CTL, Carry, Schneider, or Superior) then go for it. You'll be properly trained and if you're cut out for tank work, it will be much more rewarding concerning time off, income, and the amount of b.s. you'll deal with versus freight-hauling with a van or reefer trailer.

Also, if you do get your CDL get the hazmat (and tanker) endorsement. It will save you worries down the road...
