Marten has an ad posted in my area (Buffalo, NY) and I'm thinking about checking them out. I've been planning on going with Roehl, but Marten's website says home weekly. So is it safe to assume I'd be home every seven days with two days off?

I don't know much about the regional/dedicated stuff but that sounds about right. It's got to be pretty hard to have them come out Monday, get them miles and then get back home on Friday, week after week. 7 days out with 2 off is probably what your looking at. I would give them a shout on the phone to get the details. I've picked up at the General Mills and Sorrento right near Buffalo and we also do quite a bit out of Avon a little bit of a ways from Buffalo. 8) 8)

this is how the ad reads - it just says guaranteed home time, but the web site mentions opportunities that will have you home weekly. I'm not sure if this particular job is a home weekly gig, though. I'll have to call.

Yeah that's just a general ad. By guaranteed home time they mean you get $50 for everyday you get home late. I personally don't have a problem getting home on time. My fleet manager is very good about that. They are pretty good about getting drivers home on time overall. At Christmas time they have a couple people that their job for the week or two leading up to Christmas is to absolutely make sure the drivers get home that want to be home on Christmas. They will literally do whatever it takes to make that happen. 8) 8)

I see. I wouldn't mind getting home on time either! And I'm sure my wife won't mind either.

So is the seven out two in pretty standard for them? Is that your deal, or are you out longer than that?

That 7/2 relates to the regional/dedicated. I like to run all over so I do the regular OTR stuff. We get 1 day off for every 5 out. I find that staying out 25-35 days works best for me by getting good miles and being able to stay home quite awhile. Last quarter I did pretty good. I ran 34,276 paid miles. I went home for 5 days, 10 days, 8 days at the end of June beginning of July. I don't like only being home for a few days. It seems just as you start to feel rested you have to head back out. When I stayed home for 10 days it was way too much. After 7 I was ready to head out but needed to stay home for something. 6-7 days is about right for me. 8) 8)

hmm...that's an interesting twist on it. My wife is feeling some stress about me only being home for two days at a time, probably during the week when she's at work during the day, we'd only get to really see each other at night. And the other thing is there would be absolutely no time to do much of anything else like trying to catch up with other friends, etc. I know as a newbie I have to pay my dues, but I can't help but feel like I truly will have no life for the next year.

Hey perch, Its gonna be hard if you are home every night now, she is gonna hate it. Unless you know she is strong no matter what its gonna suck for a bit. To be honest you wont have much of a life unless you can land a dedicated route which is cake cause them you can plan stuff to a point. You never know but ask the compnay what lanes they run or what dedicated routes they have near you. Best of luck bro.
