Never got disqualified one time while they were still paying bonuses. Pretty simple rules to follow. Kinda hard to screw it up.

Just admit it. You're a loser. I've told a number of Crete drivers of your supposed 4 days without a load story and there has been one common theme to their responses. Bullshit.
So I take it that you didn't go and ask my manager herself in Ottawa as I asked? Wonder why? Oh yeah you are a liar and trying to bamboozle the newbies here in recruiting bonus money.
Too bad you never finished High School. Probably grade school too for that matter. Maybe if you had you would have the creativity to come up with a new attack instead of the same old BS recruiting argument that you seem to be stuck on.

I don't take a day off every week to attend their safety meetings.

I did have to take the HazMat Security Awareness Test which I scored a 98%
on --dispite not actually having a HazMat endorcement anymore on my CDL

And all those points were put on last May-- and I've Passed 3 CVSA inspections so far too-- besides the points falling off every 6months.

And my MVR is Clear--- they apparently didn't believe that--- I got 4 notices from my state- that Crete checked 4 times -- wonder how much that cost them???

I'm actually (since Dec) in the black with safety.

I was also informed I WOULD qualify for ATA 2 million mile safe driver (in 14years driving--this is considered a remarkable achievement in this amount of time) IF only Polar Express & Asche Transfer were still in business and had been members & I members of ATA.

Awesome Headborg. That is a real achievement and I am proud of you for making it.

This week is starting out to be a week of "Firsts".

First- I finish up that short relay from Columbus yard to Sysco; Front Royal, Va

My day started today at 03:00 CST- I already had my empty disconnected and ready to pull away. So my combined hooking the loaded trailer, fueling, sending loaded call, safety "visual inspection" --- was all completed in exactly
15minutes-( probably get a safety point for that---but W.T.F.).

Arrived at Sysco for the first time-- that's right first time in 3 years- at 12:19EST and am pleased to find it's always a "drop/hook" for Shaffer here--
I ask-" are you sure, the Computer says Live Unload per XXXXX"

Yep, they always drop/hook Shaffer here---- and to think all those loads I've been dropping in Indy or Columbus basically for fear of a long live unload-- and those miles I've given up. (Because Sysco/Sigma always notoriously Take their Time in the past elsewhere)

12:49EST I fire off-- "it's friday--what next" right after empty call
12:53 I get the following Load offer:

(1) Rocky Mountain, Va
p/u 0208 0700-1500
Fremont, Mi
del 0211 0800
stops=1 miles=983
(2) Rocky Mountain, Va
p/u 0208 0700-1800
Harrisonville, Mo
del 0211 1000
stops=1 miles=974

It's 191 paid deadhead miles from Front Royal to Rocky Mountain, Va
it's also 1pm, and my 14hr clock has been running since 3pm(cst)

I choose #2- I might be able to make that p/u time, because I sure as hell
can't make my truck fly 191miles in 2hrs. and second- I like that 10am delivery much more than a 8am eastern(7am)--- and Michigan is still in this guys Zone/Region ( Ohio Valley) which also includes Va --- and so far,
this guy #1 didn't want to let me drop a load last month in Indy( actually was going to make me set on it all weekend( it delivered in Waukegen, Il on Monday Morning(0200)-- and I just lost all of yesterday IN this guys Zone.....time to relocate to greener pastures.

Now, maybe this was the wrong call----won't know until Monday-
Honestly, I haven't been taking loads into and thus out-of Michigan....Maybe they got some GOOD LOADS OUT BOUND FROM THERE????? Any other Shaffer Drivers read this----pls let me know??
anything good out of Michigan????

I arrive at 16:15 CST and am pleased to find--- it's a dry load.
I ask if it is a Crete account or Shaffer and find it's been a Shaffer Account
last 6-8 months with several loads going out each week. No more Intel can be gained/ they can't tell me "where all" they ship to(that we pickup regularly)....but I do learn that the other load (Michigan) hadn't been picked up....yet.

Loaded by 17:20 (now 20 minutes over 14hr clock)

I send following message: No overnite parking avail here at customer-- moving truck to T/S 3.1 miles away( in town)

And here I set--- Good nite all
Night Headborg. I just delivered a load from Romeoville, Il drop yard to Dunkirk, Ny and now laoding near Rochester and going to Los Lunas, Nm for Wednesday delivery. Gives me a ool huh?
Lucky Bastard....Long miles....I hate you....JK(just kidding)
How many miles is that anyway? That will be an excellent start of a week(1/2)
Deliver early Wednesday or late?

Lets see it pays 1905 miles. Had 142 DH. and delivers late that day but will be out of hours mostly when I get there so looks like casino night for me.

The load that got me here from Romeoville was 91 DH and paid 506. So that is a good week. Will see what I get from there but fighting this log book all the way and may have to just start looking at the next week.

Pays 1905 miles with 145 DH. The load here from Romeoville was 506 and 91 DH. Good week and since I am fighting my log may have to do the start looking for the following week miles after I deliver.

Default Oh

Forgot to add that they had a delivery time on Tuesday and didn't have the hours to deliver and I said I would grab it and run and we can repower the load for someone but they went ahead and set a new appt. time for Wednesday and now I can deliver myself. My delivery time is 1600. A bit late but like I said I wil be short on hours and will just ask for a load the following morning.

Last time I was in the area though I had to run over to near Gallup and get a load for Salt lake city that was not too fun so hope that doesn't happen.

Well there is a hard lesson for "newbies" to be learned here from my "misfortune" .

Try to stay at ONE company and build a career-- the fewer the better.
Once they close the doors all you got is a DAC record-- if(someone) even bothers to stay around to send those off.

Try to work for Carriers that are associated with ATA.

I agree. Bouncing around too much and always looking for greener pastures is not good. All of the mega carriers are basically the same so they should know what and about how they like to run and get with the best that they can. Pay is a real incentive.

Awhile back I was talking to a Werner driver who had a couple of years of experience and asked him why he doesn't come to Crete as we pretty much go to the same places and I was sure he would get at the least the same miles if not more. He would have made like a 9 cpm jump in pay. He said that Crete does not have Petes and he would not drive a Freight shaker.

Them Petes must be a great friggin truck to forego 9 cpm. We get a lot of ex werner in orientation though so most do not think so. The reason for saying this is that with that kind of logic and knowing so many jump around then that assures our reliabilities and abilities being sought even more so.

Keep trying though. I have way more experience at Crete than you and know this company well. I also have brought many over to this company by not lying as you do and they come with their eyes open and know the score beforehand. Be honest and upfront with anyone and they will be glad. Lie to them for a bit of bonus money and they will hate you.

alot of drivers will throw out some lame excuse like that- "won't drive a Freightliner"- to cover other valid reasons for not going for MORE $$$$- same work. Like maybe, he's got tickets or other qualification issues- he doesn't want to admit...best to just shake your head and let it go-
also many drivers start out with ONE model truck-- that's all they know- and are afraid of falure during the Road test in a completely unfamiliar truck/model.

Don't get me wrong-- I drove a Pete 379 for 5years. But I'd never give up a 9cpm pay rate increase just for a "stylish" fantastic ride.
