Default Anyone familiar with Westar, Wichita Falls Texas?

I've been out of big rig trucking for about 15 years and have been doing some hotshot work the last few years. This has all but played out and I have decided to put my hat back into the OTR ring again. I am contemplating Westar out of Wichita Falls, mainly due to the close proximity of home, quality equipment and quite a bit of at home time.

Has anyone had experience good or bad with this company?

Any suggestions for other companies in or around Wichita Falls?

THANKS in advance.

Joe

I know Westar has a little yard there in Jolly and they load at alot of the same places we load. Lots of drywall. Really don't know any specifics. Passmore has their yard in Altus and with the right dispatcher (not Sissy), you'll be home every weekend.

I don't know terribly much, but my husband was considering them as a possibility with being here local. He was told they require 6 months recent experience, do not routinely take "students", but was still told as a newbie to come see them, as they are "desperate" for drivers currently (well, last month). I don't really know much about their payrate or anything like that, as he decided he wanted only a few companies to train him in flatbed and would wait until he could get one of them.

Please, please keep us updated! They are still an option for us in 6 months - 1 year. I'm very interested in hearing how it works out for you.

Default good luck and keep a positive attitude and you will do fine!

good luck and keep a positive attitude and you will do fine! don't let what anyone else says affect you take it with a grain of salt. their experience is not your experience. westar has 10 and 13 speed trucks so you will be well versed and the inside of the cab is much bigget than any other trucks are, the beds are queen size usually and very comfortable i have been told. good luck and god bless.

First day done, went in for the orientation this morning, there were 5 of us, all experienced drivers which makes it nice except, why is there always that 1 guy that has to share every second of every load just to impress everyone that could care less? This afternoon went for the DOT Physical and Drug Test. Dang it, all they had me to do was pee in a bottle. I was hoping for some good drugs, maybe a snort of coke, crank or .... oops, wrong forum. So far I am very impressed with these guys. 2005 and up Pete's, still have a few 05 Volvo's and Freightliner's, Stress keeping it clean and maintenance at 7500 and 15000. Lot of the loads are drywall for which they have lumpers hired onsite to load and tarp for us. Sounds promising, I'll keep everyone informed.
