Sorry all. For some reason my email wasn't letting me know that this thread had new posts. I missed answering a few important questions but I see my boy Matt (TMC) got my back. hehehe

Any questions from anyone please feel free to call me at the Toll Free # below and I'll help you as best I can.

A note to inmate, please stop telling "stories" most here know a lot more about TMC than YOU do and know you're not being exactly truthful.

Gee I was WAAAY nicer there than I thought I'd be! Must be because it's LATE!

If you go with TMC just be prepared to work hard but the company does put an emphasis on safety, and they wont leave you stranded if you need them.
Just their South Carolina orientation is not that great, I cant speak for Iowa.
Huh?
It's max 6 weeks with a trainer.
The new guy doesn't do all the work. The only time the trainee is supposed to do "all the work" is the 5th - 6th week. In essence, that is to prepare them for working by themselves. However, most trainers won't sit in the truck while the trainee does the securement, it would cut into their paycheck and it's damn boring.
I will agree that the hotel in SC is the pits.
Quit making stuff up.
Making stuff up? I was there in July. Have they changed the rules? Instead of accusing me of "making stuff up" maybe you should contact TMC in South Carolina and tell them to quit passing false information.
As I said, I was only speaking of the South Carolina center, not any other training facility so I never made any assumptions about any other training center. Any information or personal experiences I passed on, came directly from TMC South Carolina and not some recruiter.

OK, I read the WHOLE thread yesterday...DH even called and talked to Fred. He says he is a really nice guy!!

from what i can sum up is this...TMC is OK to get your training BUT then it is time to move on....move on to WHERE?? What flatbed company out there offers the money TMC does??

Is there something I am missing here?? DH has 23years driving exp. 15 of that is flatbed. So where would a seasoned driver go to make good money if not TMC??

he will do fine here. making deliveries on time, good fuel mileage, low idle time 30% and lower all add up to good snapshots which equals more points and better pay. not to mention that he will get an additional % point for each year he is with the company. so he can be making good money and has the option to get onto dedicated and specialized. sure he has that now but this works very well for most drivers.

I forgot to mention that 4 of those years were with TMC. I think he left them in 2000 cause of some marriage problems.

Move on? Why? USUALLY the only people who suggest that are either:
A) Someone who's application was turned down by TMC (happens a LOT).
B) Got fired
C) Weren't cut out to be flatbed drivers (or truck drivers) in the first place.

Where else will you make OVER $50,000 per year driving a truck? There are a FEW exceptions but that comes with a lot of experience where here too, with a lot of experience, you can make WELL over that. IMO if you can find a company that works for you, and you're happy with the salary, why leave?
CAD is FULL of people telling EVERYONE, "Yeah, you work at such & such company, get your experience and move on." What DUMB advice. New drivers then go into a job with the GOAL...... of LEAVING! What a lousy way to work. And we WONDER why there is such high turnover?? I believe a job is what you make it. Hell I even know a COUPLE of happy Swift drivers, often said to be the hell hole of trucking. What sets them apart is positive attitude and determination to make THEIR job, WORK.

imate, WHO did you speak to in SC? What is their NAME? If what you said is true and not a misunderstanding, I will have a talk with them. Training is 6 weeks MAX with a driver/trainer. The ONLY exception to this is for someone who feels THEY need/want extra time with an instructor. TMC will accomodate them though I can tell you now, if someone wants more than 6 weeks training, he/she may want to consider an alternate career.

I agree with you....no one seems to have any better advice. DH is familure with TMC so that is good. As we speak he contemplating bobtailing home to Tulsa since there is NO FREIGHT in Southern Cal.

There are going to be bumps in the road no matter where you work and we have to make the best of things. But all in all I cant think of a better place than TMC..
