Angel; there are two decent companies in the Nashville, Tennessee area that hire recent school graduates; Star Transportation and Western Express. Go safely; see you on the big road!

US Xpress no doubt. I was a trainer there and if I ever quit my gig that I have now, I'll be back at USX.

Yes many do have terminals in the Atlanta area. But the presence of a terminal should not be the deciding factor in whether or not you would work for them.

I wouldn't keep that thought too cut and dried.....you could lose out on a lot of good opportunities that way. Just because a company provides orientation in GA doesn't make them any better or worse than one that doesn't.

Whether or not to work for a particular company should be based on far more than a couple of conveniences. When I first went to work for CFI in 96' I had to relocate to another state, because they did not hire in FL. I had to go to Joplin, MO for Orientation... thats the only place they had Orientation at that time. And back then...you paid your own way to orientation. Its different now, they pay your way, and they have orientation in a number of major metro areas...including Atlanta.

I made two decisions based on a ton of information that I had gathered, and I traveled distances to get what I needed done....and now, years later I can say that I would still do it that way again....and I am happy I made the decisions that I did.

I am living back in FL...no terminal here, and they don't have orientations here...I just bring my truck home.

Never limit your choices or options based on "conveniences".....

And what happens if they fail one part of the orientation process now the poor sap has to take a bus all the way bac home. This is common sense
its called preparing for the unexpected. Having a terminal keeps everything more productive maint on your off time etc etc.
theirs nothing wrong with conveniences the more conveniences the better.
they dont have to search the entire world to find a decent companies theirs plenty in ga.

How about Millis? I know they do alot out of Georgia ( Cartersville, I believe )You could probably hook a dedicated or regional from where you live, and I've never really read anything bad about them...www.millistransfer.com

And if on the other hand...they have all their ducks in a row, then they have nothing to worry about, right?

That may well be...as long as the shop gets to the truck while the driver is home...and there is no guarantee of that, because most shops in terminals work on the trucks based on their loads and the eta's of their loads at their destinations...and because of that, a driver who is "off" is at the bottom of the priority list.

I never said there was anything wrong with conveniences...but I would be curious as to which companies have "terminals" in GA that are "decent"?
I can think of several that I wouldn't even talk to. Oh, I'm not trying to be contentious or argumentative....just asking your opinion.

I just think its not quite right to narrow your possibilities based solely on the basis of terminal locations and conveniences.....

Could always go with Wiley Sanders out of Troy, AL. It's not far from Columbus, and we just got a pay raise. So lemme think, starters get .32/mile I believe.

It's decent, has it's ups and downs, just get a good dispatcher like mine
