ECM (electronic control module) engines have had the ability to record your speed, breaking action, hours of driving, and idling for years. GPS (global positioning systems) are used to track a vehicle's movements. Any company that uses Qualcomm has GPS. GPS can be used to assist a driver in avoiding traffic jams, find addresses, and map the shortest route from point A to B.

Most carriers use GPS for customer service. Too many drivers have indicated they were 15 minutes away when they were actually 100 miles away. The GPS tells the rest of the story.

The FMCSA can use elctronic data to compare against driver's logs to ensure the log is true and correct.

Most carriers pay by a mapping program, by shortest miles. Some pay by the old HHG Movers Guide. Most mapping programs are 5 - 6% short, the HHG is 10 - 12% short.

Not many companies pay hub miles.

Companies may penalize drivers for HOS violations provided there is a written policy.

GPS is separate from Electronic OBRs.

Since no one on this forum can give you an official response I'd say you have one of two choices. (1) Pay an attorney or (2) Talk to the company.

If I had to guess I'd guess there is nothing illegal about the company installing a "SNITCH BOX" as you call it. The one thing a company can NOT do is give you a ticket. Ticket are given by law enforcement not companies.

If you are not a union employee a company an terninate you for any reason or no reason. You are employed at what the law call an "at will" employee.

The balance of your post make no sense.

If you don't like the way a company is treating you I would suggest you find another company.

No answer is ever official regardless of who offers the opinion. The interpretations offer guidance and set a legal precedence for judges and attorneys to make an informed decision for the matter before them. Each case is different as there are different conditions that led to the violation. Culpability is a crucial issue, one judge may say guilty while the next says case dismissed and the next judge says not guilty the three decisions have different consequences.

While carriers cannot write tickets some carriers do collect penalties for failing to follow company policy. Is it legal for carriers to collect penalties? I don't know the driver would have to consult an attorney.

IF you agree to this when you hire on, the carrier can charge you for whatever you agree to. If you are not following company policy and have agree to their terms, then you have no right to complain about this in any way..especially if you do something expressly against company policy. Companies cannot make a driver pay for actual damages to equipment for example, but they CAN lower the rate of pay to the driver or can lay the driver off for a few days OR can terminate the driver.

I've been running these systems for awhile now.. most of this stuff you are worried about are just plain myth and hysteria.

As scientists have long known, perplexing electrical activity in the upper atmospheric zone called the ionosphere can tamper with signals from GPS satellites.
Now, new research and monitoring systems are clarifying what happens to disruptive clouds of electrons and other electrically charged particles, known as ions, in the ionosphere. The work may lead to regional predictions of reduced GPS reliability and accuracy.

One team of researchers has recently observed Earth's aurora, which is a prominent manifestation of ionospheric electrical activity, in the act of disrupting GPS equipment. Other scientists have successfully tested a way to forecast GPS disturbances for marine users, with likely extension to users on land.

Some research groups are turning the tables and employing GPS receivers as tools with which to conduct basic research on the electrical-current structures of the ionosphere.

The scientific reports on these and other recent developments are available in a special section of Space Weather: The International Journal of Research and Applications, a publication of the American Geophysical Union, or AGU.

A magazine-style article that introduces the section was posted online Friday, June 6. It summarizes past research and operational developments regarding ionospheric effects on GPS, and discusses potential future improvements in the field.

If you have a White dome about 10" on the back of our sleeper or on the truck, the truck has Qualcomm and they are tracking you. They can track any number of parameters. B law, if the Qualcomm device fails, it MUST let you know by either bells or whistles or flashing lights.
