Good thing I know the night manager, she let me take tons outside to try and let me park my truck at the front entrance with the trailer. |
Hey Steve how do you get $600 for pm's? I was actually stunned when I saw that cause I have only done one so far and it cost about $200 and I figure I'll need one every 5 to 6 weeks. Either I overpaid (not a surprise either, expensive figuring all this out) or, well I don't know what the or is as I know you are taking care of the truck.
Thanks. |
The $600 was for 3 PM's at about $200 each.
|
I thought the same as merrick....$600 for 9 months worth of PM's??????
|
That was $600 for PM's in 7 months since Jan 1st.
It was 100 degrees yesterday here in New Hampshire and got a chance to try out my Rigmaster in a real test. I got into the drivers seat after it had been running for a few hours and it was nice and cool. Then I went back and sat of the bed and it was 90 degrees back there. I then realized the output air duct from the unit was on the front panel of the bed support facing forward to the front of the truck. So, once again I'm side tracked by yet another thing. Off to Home Depot to buy a 4" hole saw, duct work and hose clamps. I ended up drilling a hole inside under the bunk into the storage cabinet. From there I went up the wall then drilled another hole facing into the bed where my legs would be. Now it's nice and cool back there and 6,000 degrees up front. My truck was absolutely spotless before this. Well, drilling through pressed particle board with the A/C running and 5,000,000 CFM cold air blowing out made one hell of a mess with sawdust everywhere not to mention little curly pieces of metal stuck to the carpet from drilling through the metal bed base. My guess is that the moment you pull into a truck stop in the afternoon you need to fire up the APU and keep the cab cool right away and not loose what you have already from the engine AC. Even though the unit is 20,000 btu I don't think it could catch up cooling a truck that has been sitting in 100+ temps. I also made a dry run at my snow chains yesterday. I bought new ones last year but never put them on. Well, big surprise. What a royal pain. The trailer chains went on ok but the drive tandems are too loose and I can't figure out how those stupid cam things work. Also, both the trailer and drive chains have 5 links that need to be removed. My tires are low pro so I'm assuming that's where all the slack came from. I'll have to load them up in my car and have the local hardware store cut them. I head out tomorrow, Sunday to Colorado Springs with some of Jimmy Buffets stage equipment. I guess one of there truck drivers quit. I got $1.90 per mile for a 2,000 mile trip which is pretty good in my books. I was asked later if I wanted to sign on but said no. You need to commit to 3 months on the road and all I could think of is all the worst places in the world to be pulling into and all the big cities. Not my idea of trucking. I want the wide open spaces and no people. |

Also disappointed to hear that (for 7000 dollars) the system has trouble cooling on a really hot day. |
The parts pretty much cost nothing and it's 200 miles to the Rigmaster place. I was done in an hour although the cleanup will take a while.
I was always nice and cool with my engine A/C running but that was with the vent in the bunk blowing right on me. The rest of the cab was real hot. At least I have the same setup now and only burning .2 gallons per hour instead of 1.5 The real test will be after driving a full day with the engine A/C then stopping around 3 in the afternoon. The cab should be cool from driving then I'll fire up the Rigmaster right away and see how it does. I remember being in Texas once and it was over 100 out. I met 2 people that had APU's on there truck. They were running them with the A/C on full, the truck was running with the A/C on AND!!!!!! they had Idle Air hooked up and running. It was that bad out. I'm guessing that day it was over 110. The once nice thing about having an APU is once the sun sets your unit should have no problem keeping up with cooling. Keep in mind that on a sunny day with the temp at 100, the surface of your truck will be around 150. Not much you can do about that unless you can find some shade. The Rigmaster has a nice feature in that you can set the temp to like 60 and put it in autotemp mode. When it reaches 60 inside the engine shuts off and when it reaches 65 it starts up again. That will be nice since I've woken up many times in the morning only to find the inside of the truck freezing cold, the outside air temp is 50 and the windshield covered in condensation. This way the unit will shut off completly when the temp drops at night without wasting more fuel for no reason. |
