I will almost gurrantee that there is someone shipping EVERYDAY to and from your home. I"m still planning to try shorter runs to and back from Mid West. BTW, I'm in Ontario... not Quebec. That's not even Canada - they have our money but they speak French Anyway, this month was a total disaster in terms of income and repairs/losses, that's why I had to grab this load that pays ABOVE my required rate per mile. The only downside is I had to deadhead 550 miles from Sydney, Nova Scotia to this town in Quebec to get it. But now when I have the load, it's smooth sailing. I don't expect any freeways to be closed - I'll be heading west on I-80 all the way to the Northern part of Nevada where I unload. I checked the outgoing freight in that area and for some crazy reason they had a ton of freight going to Eastern Canada. It may be gone by the time I get there but still.

I carry chains but I don't use them unless I'm stuck in a parking lot (happened this morning actually and the chains were big help). If the conditions require chains it's time to shut down and go to a hotel.

Actually, I PAID them to take me off. Met another Landstar driver when crossing the border in Port Huron MI and he said years ago this run paid close to $15,000 and he did it a couple of times for that price. At $9,300 INCLUDING TICKETS it's not worth it.

I didn't read it that way initially, but now that I re-read it with your interpretation in mind, I will admit that it could be interpreted as equipment only......however impractical and ridiculous that may be.

Perhaps the prudent course of action is to call the telephone number listed in the link to get an interpretation.

I just found the piece of paper I signed when hired by Landstar. Here's a short version of the Landstar Cabotage Policy for Canadian drivers.

"The undersigned independent contractor does hereby certify that Landstar management has explained to me its Cabotage Policy and the illegalities of cabotage policies. Specifically, I have been informed that as a NON RESIDENT ALIEN WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES, I may only transport loads of freight moving between points within Canada and between points in Canada on the one hand and points within the United States of America on the other.

It is understood that if I engage in transporting/moving shipments between points within the Unted States, I have engaged in cabotage which is in direct violation of the law and may be subject to fines, equipment seizure and possible imprisonment. It is understood that if I am offered shipments moving within the United States, I am to identify myself as an unauthorized alien and refuse the load..."

And that's that - no ifs or buts. Hope this helps other Canadians trucking into and out of the USA.
