I can feel your friend's pain,Mike. I booked one load that payed 1.93 a mile that was 280 miles away going to UT that got canceled. Another one from Fort Worth to OR. that payed 1.70 a mile also canceled. Now everything that is left going in that direction is paying 1.00 a mile or less or is nonexistant.Even Ltls are practically nonexistant. Maybe some brokers will get desperate just before Thanksgiving and cough up a decent rate but that is still in the air at this point. Your friend might get a decent rate if he wants to run over the holiday.

Landstar rates are in the toilet also and you are lucky to get $1.10 per mile after they take their cut. That's on runs longer then 1,000 miles. You can do better with the shorter runs but not much.
I was at our terminal in Florida for the first time and was surprised to learn that about 10 people actually live there! They have a P.O. Box at the post office, sleep in their truck then cook and shower at the terminal. I guess that's living pretty cheap. Rates may be low but that does reflect the price of fuel and we are back to running for $.50 cents per mile or lower for fuel.

Mike I still don't get where I am fudging anything. I get a copy of the load confirmations with my check on Friday to verify they match the trucks gross revenue on the check. The files are also a open book, I can look at the load confirmations from any of the other trucks that are leased to them. I understand what you are saying too but it's right there on the check stub I posted what the commission was. If someone want's to deduct the commision from the revenue of the truck the numbers are right there to do so. Scrutny I don't mind at all if done in a halfway professional manner. The 3rd grade stuff that has been going on here just downgrades the site and people get sick of it and leave. The board is dead was posted by someone.........Things that make you Hmmmmmmmmm The Swift driver killed thread ended up being 13 pages and what was accomplished?? It should of been locked on page 2. When i first got out of school I took a job with MCT. My first day out with the trainer was at night and I started driving with the trainer in the right seat. 15 minutes later he said you are doing great, i'm going to bed. I had never driven a truck at night, driven a 18 speed, or ever been in control of a truck by myself. I would think it is a industry wide hazard concerning the training, not just Swift. That's why I quit after 4 days. I figured if I was going to learn by myself there was no need live with a scum bag for 6 weeks. I had already decided while I was in school I was going to buy a truck but needed to get a little experience to get insurance. There is another thread where someone wants to meet someone and fight.........That stuff encourages helpful debate huh? The classroom: I know the only recruiters that go in there are from England. Trans Am, and Werner. If a student came on here asking questions about them they would be attacked. Do you think someone coming here for answers needs that? Maybe the board needs a section just for slammimg eachother and all those that enjoy that stuff can all meet there and have a good time. Everyone else wouldn't have to wade through it on all the other threads that had pertinent information to read. Thanks Rev and Mike for being civil and asking legitimate questions. I hope I answered them all.

Do I pull a dry van? I guess so. My van has side doors, liftgate, tri-axle trailer, high cube (4300cu ft). I do mostly ltl of tradeshow, medical equipment, and various special commodities. I do a little pad wrap too. I've got only a few HHG moves under my belt with my new agent as well. I've even done a few climate-controlled loads. I stack, deck, strap freight. Sometimes I setoff freight at agents while I deliver and do other pickups. Off the east coast I had to reload my trailer 3 times throughout a week at an agent to make it fit high and tight. I could make a thread on it and most would say I'm crazy. Then I'd post my numbers, and everyone would want to do it. Quote and laugh it up Revvy Boy ![]() And I talked to the hobby trucker last night. If I could make what he does an hour, I'd park my truck. He really is a hobby trucker for wanting to drive instead of making the salary he does. And, yes, I date an older woman, but I won't post those numbers either!

Posting numbers is always a touchy subject - not only because nobody else knows whether they are real, but because nobody knows what is needed to create those numbers.

Dry van, with air ride and e-track (see pic in avatar), I'd rate it a 9/10 for condition, paid $4500. I may buy a 2nd trailer at some point this year which would be a reefer but I need to watch rates a while longer and look into CA requirements for the reefer unit before I put down any money for one.
