Advice please: I70 through Colorado or

160 pretty much runs east - west across Colorado. From Durango you would go east to Pagosa Springs or west to Cortez. 550 would take you north through Durango, up the mountain to Silverton, then down the north side of the mountain to Ouray.
You found out about 64 east from Farmington. It is about the same as crossing Wolf Creek...I did all those routes back in the late 70's through the mid 80's in trucks without jake brakes. Lot's of ITH 549 gas engines and Cat 3208 "throw-aways" I actually do a lot of these adventures. It is risky, though, because I'm 75 feet long, and the axles are all at the back. I went to Nova Scotia by way of Albany, NY - NE into VT, NH and ME. Came back via a similar route. Just did a short one in KY. That is one way to make a vacation of the vocation. Again, it is not for the faint of heart, nor the trips where you are pressed for time.

I was headed for Lamar, that day, so I thought about picking up 160 east, in Durango. Other than the snow, I think it may be a wash.

I take 70 whenever it's not stormy. It's always winter when I come through there,
and I usually pick 70 for a different view out my cabin windows. Moab is too cool for words.
