What is the break even point for an owner operator?

If you live in Nashville, you could make a decent living and still stay within a 500 miles radius. That would enable you to get by the house at least on the weekend. Some people do find it difficult to be away from home in this business. You live within 500 miles of the best freight area in the country.

But as far as team driving I don't see how you could make money with the limited radius. If you're transporting freight 600 miles loading one morning and off loading the next one driver can do that. There is no need for two and if there were two they would be splitting the profit. Now, if shippers and consignees loaded and unload 24 hours a day it would be different.

You are so full of :dung: it is dribbling out your ears. I just got the S endorsement. The school district where I was hired Thursday uses a third party tester. I used a school district bus for the test. You just can't walk in and get the s endorsement. You need to give the dmv a form from the school (2c) to even take the knowledge test.

I am not necessarily suggesting that you run team with your Dad, but the radius is from your home base. In other words, you can run 500 miles in any direction. If you are 500 miles West of your home base, then you conceivably could run 1,000 miles East and still be within your mileage restriction. If you ran with your Dad then he could just pay you for the miles you run or pay the equivalent of 1/2 the solo driver pay for all miles run. He could also pay you a flat percentage of the rate, which is how some of us pay our drivers.

I will usually go almost anywhere the rates are good. If you limit where you go then you are limiting your income. Most of the time I can get pretty decent paying loads going in and out of Pennsylvania. I can usually find a way around the toll roads. Mountains are just something we put up with when we drive for a living. Your Dad should be able to get home weekly going to any of those states he doesn't like to travel.

I usually don't respond to topics like this, but Charged are you for real, come
on you can tell us. You have been pulling our leg all along. You can not be this clueless. If so please take a step back and reevaluate what ya'll have gotten into. This industry does not need another CHEAP freight hauler.
