Does that $0.50/mile include all deadhead, charged? Whatever your net, you need to include 15% for self employment taxes. That is the Social Security tax for both the employee and employer contributions. It doesn't include income tax, which can vary from one individual to another depending on the type of operation they run.

At best, after taxes, he is making company driver wages. Seems like an awful huge hassle to earn the same amount you could without the risk.

I went back and copied Mine, Rev's, Geomon and Charged figures that they posted so we can all refer to them at any time.

When I get a chance I'll put them into an Excel spreadsheet with a blank column for others to plug their numbers in.

I could use an FTP account and a little storage space???

I know for this week he made $1.87/mi including deadhead.

As far as being a company driver. He didn't go to an accredited school, but did go to a school that taught him how to drive and pass the test. He had no previous experience. So how much was that company going to pay him? Was he going to be home every weekend or whenever he wants?

Jeezus! After muddling through this mess, my monitor floated right off the table...what a bunch of hot air

Sure the kid's overlooking a couple of things, but nothing major. There's nothing wrong with the direction he's attacking the issue from.

"I know how much I want to make. Can I reasonably expect to achieve that if I'm grossing this much?"

He's obviously lumping profit and wage into the same category. Not correct from a business standpoint, but what 90% of O/O's are doing anyway. Also not making any more than a company driver. Again, more the norm than the exception.

The question could have been easily answered in a paragraph or two instead of 10 pages of BS...in which little in the way of an answer was provided. Then again, that's what forums are for

I suppose he was asking for it. Why ask a question when you already know the answer?

Business is a constant learning process. He probably would not earn a lot of money starting out with no experience and not having attended an accredited driving school. If he chose to go with a flat bed carrier, he would be probably be required to tarp and would be required to go where they needed him. Getting home every weekend can be a problem with most carriers starting out. When you work for a company you have to abide by their rules. Most will try to get you home when needed, but won't normally guarantee home time starting out.
