Longsnowsm, here's where I'm at. I bought a truck, the truck and all the work I've done to it is paid for. I bought a trailer recently, it's an 05 Fontaine combo. I still owe on the trailer, but I should be able to pay it off in a couple months, (I have a couple nice paying jobs going at the moment) It looks like I might have to borrow some start up money, either that or just keep the trailer payment and pay cash for start up. I've kept track off all monies put into this venture even down to the last bolt and screw that cost 50 cents and the polish that I bought........everything.
I found a decent source of work to get started also, and I think he's going to keep an eye me so to speak through my learning curve. Once it's up and running the business will have to pay me back for everything I've put in it plus interest. After all, what I've put into this could have gone towards other things for me and my wife so she sacrificed as well and she's not scared to let me know either . I'm going to set the payments on a five year plan for the truck, I figure I'll stretch it out so it's not a lot of pressure on me and then once I get comfortable I can pay it off quicker. That's the way I like to do things anyway, whenever I've bought a vehicle I stretch it and then pay it off in few years, but if something happens oh........like a recession  you can make minimum payments. If I don't pay the trailer off I'll set that at 3 year plan. All together it's about 60M ( ) to get started. I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to have everything paid for before I started but with the slow down in the economy and especially construction it's been a horrible year. All three of my steady customers slowed down big time so it's been a struggle and I had to halt putting money into this venture. However, I'm sick of looking at it in the driveway so I decided to change my plan a little. A lot of my stuff will be local or out and back through the house a good bit during the week.

Well, your already married, so why not put the truck in "her" name. That way when you buy some chrome, you can say "look honey, I bought you some chrome today for YOUR truck"
Besides that, you might have a chance of pinning the bankruptcy on her that way too.
