And make sure you can get parts for it without having to translate Chinese

Get a coolant pump, fuel pump, and it should all work.

It's easy to get a 3600rpm engine and a 3600rpm genhead, but thats a screamer. I would try to stay around 2400rpm with the engine and 2800rpm with the genhead. The unit would last a lot longer, run quieter, and be more fuel efficient.
What happens if you don't spin a 3600 rpm generator head at 3600 rpm? Does it just not produce the full wattage that it is supposed to? If that's the case, I could run it at 1800 rpm, and still get the 3000 watts I need to run my AC, couldn't I (6000 watt gen head)? What would happen if I put a larger pulley on the engine than what is on the generator head, so that the engine could run at a lower RPM than the generator head?

EDIT: NEVER MIND. I forgot I tried this, and it wasn't producing 110 volts anymore - it was only producing like 80 volts.

Two pole gen heads must turn at 3600 RPM to produce 60 HZ current. This can be accomplished with different sized pulleys to reduce engine RPM if you have enough engine HP. Four pole gen heads must turn at 1800 RPM to get 60 HZ. Figure about 2 HP for EACH 1000 watts that you need for a given load. Air conditioner motors don't run well if not at 60 HZ. (early failure, overheat etc). Good Luck.

Just get a really large extension cord, like, reallly really long, put a reel system inplace of your gen, and then just run it to the nearest outlet!

Hey Dog, Is this your unit?

http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5-kw-diesel-ge...QQcmdZViewItem

Looks like he has plenty of units, you could get a new one for each trip

If you scroll down he also has parts.

I love how that seller shows all those pictures of AC units, the pretty box for the generator, etc, but all you get is the diesel generator.

I think I will buy one of his "INSTILLATION SETS", so I can "stop ideling".

Who knew that APU stood for "accelerated power unit"?

There is a nice little thread going on over at Trucknet about air cooled generators and how great they will work to build a "cheap apu". It seems I am being ignored - bastards.
