Not all dot cops have CB's in their cars. Those who do would not necessarily be able to tell who gave out the bear report. Most would probably not care.

DD-60 question, have you had any accidents, notice my record; very, very good for taking my off and on driving adds up to 15 real time years of riding in the high dollar lane. The miles I ran consistently in a month out performed most teams. I did this without drugs, and as I see it having no accidents speaks for itself. Question, how many drivers have you turned around to go help, I cannot count them. You are right that it is harder to run the coast in three days, dot and all;but I had no problems up until 2006 when I switched to hauling produce ca. to nm. my home and I ran that like it was the coast. Thou all can rest easy because I have returned to being a union pipefitter, the pay scale is bueno and I have to think of retirement, I am 55 and only need 7 years for full union retirement which right now is$ 4400 a month. Oh, but I do miss driving so whether you ride like the wind pushing the envelope, or play it by the rules just keep the dirty side down. Call me knucklehead, I'm gone!

Sooooo for me it's just to warn the truck drivers of the potential 4 wheelers that are about to do their manuvers.
Don't ya just love the "HALO" effect??

The "HALO" effect huh? Yeah that is the advantage of knowing where the bears are. It is also good to be in the proper lane when they have a capture on the shoulder.

As for knowing where the diesel bears are: It is nicer to be prepared and even be looking for them if they want you to pull over at a rest area or tollbooth. They are not usually understanding if you blow past them and say "sorry, I didn't see you there" It is also good to be in the proper lane for the scales and not have to make a stupid last minute lane change.

Now do I warn people of bears and open scales? Not usually. When there is a big speed trap set up I usually let people know, or if a scale is open and backed up onto the shoulder. Otherwise I only tell people who ask or the other TMC trucks I meet.

The "Halo Effect" is when 4-wheelers and BBR's are zipping along, and come upon that bear sittin there eatn his burrito and drinkn his coke..not paying much attention to anythin...but them there speeders' slow way way down...so they appear to be obeying the law...at about 15 mph slower than the posted...just cuz they see's a bear.

Darlin little "Angels'" that they is.

You are correct about that.

That Halo effect is because they have no idea how fast they are going or what the speed limit is, so they slow down to be safe.

I was trying to figure the meaning of Halo until you posted the "perfect little angels" comment. I was trying to draw some connection to the video game.

We may need to come up with another name though. "Halo Effect" is already defined on Wikipedia as something else.

I haven't had any accidents and I pray I never have a serious one regardless of who would be at fault. You are lucky that you never got in a wreck. An accident can happen faster than the blink of an eye, even to the most skilled driver. Whether you have a legal log after the accident can make a world of difference if it is a serious dot-reportable accident as to whether you will get a hefty fine and/or jail time. DOT usually looks the other way when it comes to logs UNTIL there is a serious wreck, and they can happen fast no matter how prepared you are. I just got audited this week and had I shown on my logs doing 3k miles in 3 days I would have risked a hefty fine and points on my license. I did run that hard in the early days I got into trucking but stopped quickly when I learned of all the risks. Running blatantly over your logs is simply not worth the risk or the money and definitely not to keep the shipper/broker/or dispatcher happy. A lot of shippers wouldn't even do business with a carrier if they knew they were running illegal. The last thing they would want is the truck to be sitting at a scale OOS because of it. Times have changed and HOS laws are a lot more heavily enforced.

You need to make sure that all of your logs and receipts match. A serious accident could put you out of business if you are found at fault and have log violations. Fines can be stiff, even in an audit.
