It's just funny- in the video, the reporter starts the story while standing at the entrance to the weigh stations- with NO trucks entering the scale... why? Because it's closed (as usual- this is Texas, remember?)! I wonder why they didn't say "Hundreds of potentially unsafe truckers made it past the scale during the filming of this segment..."
And the officer wasn't too terribly worked up- you have to wonder what was said that wound up on the cutting room floorl
"Every day, there's trucks that get off on the service road," said Sones.
Then, Sones said, they get back on I-35, barely slowing down. "It's a time thing for them, that they've got to be at a certain location at a time," said Sones. "As a citizen, I would definitely be concerned." If you have to go through the scale, you may wind up getting a paperwork or vehicle inspection. And, even if you pass with flying colors, that's time you'll never get back! During the video you can tell that it's totally spliced together. I like the comment from "driver" Finn Solheim: "They should have to stop." He's in a car. Texas is hardly ever open anyway- and when they are open, they don't even keep bankers hours. What a joke!

I don't have to "dodge" the scales... I run real tight routes running Midwest regional and a lot of the time there is no scale to dodge or they are usually closed. A lot of states are really cutting back the amount of scales they have and the times they are open in the Upper Midwest.
I do love the two lane roads. Oh well, I'm wierd. I can handle that. Especially when I average 5 % or less out of route, average 130K-140K miles a year, get home every weekend, and by the house once or more times a week, and don't have to lie and cheat to do it. Knowing how to manage my time and manage my paper trail (fuel, tolls, etc) I can keep everything looking right and still get the job done. Experience does count for something. |
