GMAN,

Hats off to you for continuing to explain the "it's a business" concept. I just gave up because it seemed like they were not getting it. So now, I only explain it to the folks that call me.

As far as cheap goes it is only common sense to not haul below what it costs to move. That is a different rate for each individual in itself. Personally I don't see how anyone can haul for less than 1.50 a mile and survive with today's inflations. One supposed broker called me yesterday offering a roundtrip load from Dallas to Nogales,Az and had a heavy accent. His first offer was 1.30 for the whole round and when I said no way he asked what it would take. I told him I would need his MC number and authority first before discussing rates and giving my personal info. Yesterday when I did a credit check I found out they weren't even a brokerage but a trucking company and their MC number was revoked a few days ago. Maybe that was a sample of mexicans already here. It is a scary thought but hopefully all of Bush's b.s. proposals of this issue will end up being vetoed. A strike will not fix it but a horde of letters and phone calls might help.

The Teamsters are not the same union that Jimmy Hoffa, Sr. started. If he were still around he would have been all over the media and congress over this issue.

Congress needs to stop this. We all need to write our Congressional representatives and express our views. That seems to have more impact than anything. The Bush Administration seems to want to ram this down our throats. Some forget that GW has a Mexican sister in law. I believe she is related to Fox, Mexico's president. I am not certain about the relationship. Perhaps we should remember this when we think about this issue. This is certainly not in the best interest of the U.S.

I am no expert in politics but , yes a call, letter or even an email to your congressman expressing your view might help . In doing this ( and I am mostly speaking of myself ), one needs to be informed enough to explain why you are against this. I know most of you guys and gals are. I for one will study up on this and will make a call, not so much for me but rather for all the guys and gals out there trying to make a living in an enviroment that is already harsh .
I have heard and know a bit about this ( enough to get concerned)
but if it is not too much to ask could some of you more informed folks
perhaps give a little advise on how to address this ? thanks Darin

I joined OOIDA today and found a little info about contacting a Congressman. They advise against sending email ( they get too many for them to read) so I stand corrected.

That is SO wrong. You are right in the fact they ( the congressmen ) don't read them, but their aids do ( most likely skim them ) . Don't forget it was MASSIVE e-mails that put a stop to the bill to allow illegals to stay. When you ( we ) FLOOD them with out thoughts they do listen.
