If OOIDA was worth anything then THEY should be the ones using every penny they have to advertise a strike on TV, Radio and News Papers.

There won't be any strike and if there was then Swift and all the other companies will just make that much more money picking up the slack.

It's not, that i believe, this "strike" is ever gonna happened :P , but, out of curiosity,-Isn't it illegal, for "independent businesses" , under "Anti Thrust" Law? :roll:

I'm not sure but they wouldn't be able to prove it. I'm just plain tired and feel like taking a nap FOR 30 DAYS!!!! lol

I do think it would be illegal and the government could force companies who have contracts to deliver staples like food and such to get back to work or be fined an enormous amount of money in fines.

Just one politicians wife who ran out of D cell batteries and Jack Daniels would be all it would take

They could 'force' companies to do it, but without hiring scabs, how would you get drivers to do it? We need some good old-fashioned ass-beating Teamsters to enforce a strike.

Actually, what they'd do is respond by increasing the number of south of the border drivers allowed in. Geez, now we know how Canadians feel.

Companies don't strike, people do. An owner operator is an independent businessman. As such, it is his decision whether to haul a load or not. He can refuse to haul for any company. I think the problem with many owner operators is that they can't seem to get past the company driver mentality. If a load doesn't pay what you need, then don't haul it. OOIDA isn't a union. It is a trade association. A trade association doesn't go on strike. Company drivers can go on strike if they belong to a union. Company drivers can call in sick or find another way to not work on a specific date. Of course, you will be taking a chance of losing your job if you don't work, but that is a decision each driver must make for themselves. If you want to strike, then you need to call your local Teamsters and help them organize your company. I don't see that the Teamsters does anything worthwhile to help truckers. All they seem to be interested in is making money. They will always take your money. I don't see any reason for an owner operator to join a union. Who is he going to strike against.....himself?? As long as freight keeps moving, rates will stay low. Refuse to haul the cheap loads and stand up for what you want. No one forces you to haul cheap freight. You are not a company driver. You are a businessman. A businessman decides at what rate he will haul freight. If you need $1.50, then don't take anything for less. If you need $2.00, then don't take anything less. If you take a load for $1.00 when you really need $1.50, then you have no one to blame but yourself. It is your decision.

Never cared much for unions. As far as hauling cheap , I don't see how one can stay in business hauling for less than it cost to run the truck. I guess some of these guys get to a point where they think something is better than nothing. I can see if you took a cheap load once in a while to keep from dead heading , to get you to a good load but even in that it seems like your cutting off your nose to despite your face. Maybe they panic thinking they gotta get moving rather than sit for days waiting for a good load, I just don't know. Probably the best solution would be if all carriers asked for more , I guess that would be sorta like trying to
get a strike going, next to impossible.
