This business is not rocket science. Know your operating costs down to the penny, deal w/shippers instead of borkers, provide the best customer service possible, specialize in a niche, and don't haul for pennies. Be a businessman first , steering wheel holder second. Too many so called O/O's are steering wheel holders.... I will happily answer any question about my business that is posed.... But I will not post any personal identifying info either ... I also really do not care who does not like me or my responses to posts... I do not lose sleep if Moderator Runner does not like me either...

If you did more than come on to the forum to rag on Steve Booth, you would know that I am not a company driver. I have not been a company driver, for over a year. YES...I was a company driver. For a couple very reputable and well paying company's, over 28 years. Now, I own my own truck, and drive my own truck. Like Mike3, I pull tanks, and like Mike3...I make a decent income doing it. In fact...my Gross YTD is $27,895 on 12,896 miles. The turn I just made from Saint Louis, out to NJ & CT, then back, grossed me(to the truck), $5,185.36 on 2185 total miles. I spent $1,280.00 on fuel, tolls are paid by the company I lease to. Not bad for seven days of work, don't ya think??? BigDiesel wrote:

Want to know something BD...when I first started reading Steve's posts here, I too offered him advise   . I also suggested the names of several reputable shipper's, whom I felt he could have gotten himself set-up with, as a "One-man" trucking operation. However, I made those suggestions as a PM to Steve, so that the names of the shipper's stayed between Steve and myself. Steve chose to work the way he does, through "borkers"(an apt name for "brokers"), instead of hustling work from some of those shippers. I do not come here and belittle the man because of it, though I do enjoy seeing a "rokie" plying his trade, and the places he ventures to...instead of sitting behind the desk, which he "could be" sitting behind. Since I sent those messages to Steve...I have given the names of a couple of those shippers to one other member of this forum 8) 8) . If he eventually gets sustainable income from them, more power to him.
