The brokers will tell you ANYTHING to get you there. I've found that you need to call the shipper and ask lots of questions. I asked one broker what day I had to deliver on. It was Friday and they said Saturday. While they were loading I got the shipping papers and they said to deliver on Wed. It was a holiday weekend and they were closed Monday and Tuesday and don't work on the weekends. Everyone was absolutely BS when I told them to take the load off. The shipper was a woman and so was the broker. I told the shipper that the broker told me to deliver the next day. I told her I wanted $500 a day to sit for 3 days extra. I'm sure those 2 had a great phone conversation. Having my own authority and the ability to say, take it off, felt great.

way to go steve... i dont have my own authority, but i have & wont hesitate to tell a loader to take something off my trailer in a case like that. i sat one time in mobile al. on the receiving end, the unloader counted the load of brick & msc items 5 times & kept saying i got more than what was on his list. i told him there is only one stop & your it. after an hour, i told him.. i dont care if you only take off what is in your list or the whole damn thing.. whatever you leave on my trailer is going home with me, cause thats where i'm going. he finally after going thru load 1 more time addmitted he was miscounting & load was all there no extra..
if i'm tired, hungry, & out of time.. look out. my patience is not far behind. |
