Yup, same here. My GPS almost never gives me the same directions as the receivers. It's still awesome for 99% of the time. You just need to be aware of the little things it does for you and work around them. Most of the time I can follow the customers directions and the GPS will recalculate when it sees I'm taking a different road then it usually comes up with the same directions.

The on ramp was closed yesterday so I had to go north on the highway instead of south to turn around. My GPS told me to pull a U-Turn on the divided highway.

Here's one for you with Streets and Trips.

South County Trail, East Greenwhich, RI
to
113 Ethan Allen Rd, Jericho, VT

Plane the route then get directions and look at what it did. 350 miles and a weird route up in VT.

Now grab the route and make it take 495 and 89 and it will be 300 miles and a more direct route which you would probably take it you looked at a map. My GPS did it right.

I've been driving around in my car trying to get a line on how accurate it is. Sometimes its right on the money, and even when I intentionally go off course,...it seems to be able to get me right back. Now,...that said, I'm in a car,...a truck would not be able to do what this thing tells you to do.
Is there a truck setting, or do I have to do a u-turn on a two-lane to stay on course?
Also,..does it have a way to increase the volume with out turning it up to %100 and hearing her poor voice crackle through the massive 1/2" speaker?
Other than that, its a real neat unit, and I'm going to Tally to get my base plates Monday,....lets see if it can get me there,....LOL.

It has an optional audio out that you can plug an external speaker into or you can buy an FM transmitter that plugs into the same place and listen over your radio.

My hearing isn't that great and I had an external speaker in the beginning but over a few months I was able to hear it perfect. I have the American guy voice which seems the clearest.

Go into the menu and select truck instead of car, bicycle and others.

The unit has an FM thing built in, but the problem is,...when I am using the hands free cellphone blueball thing,....the person on the other end of the line gets an echo,....so I think I'll go for the external speaker.

Question for Steve, anyone else. Is the $600-ish Nuvi the model to buy? Is Garmin the right brand? Obviously there could be different opinions, I'm just looking for one that's very good without spending a bunch of extra money for the absolute best on the market.

I have the Nuvi 350 by Garmin and VERY VERY happy with it. It's on sale at Walmart right now for $370.

If it broke today I would run out and buy the same one.

I got the nuvi 660 a few months ago. I like it so far but I don't use it like you guys do.

Doghouse if you have the 660 you can set it for no U-turns and it has a truck setting as well but I haven't had time to play with that feature.

It also has an off road feature that's a kick, go out from home a ways and turn on the off road feature then hit home button, it'll just say North (if that's the direction to your house) and take you through back yards and all. Look out for an in ground pool though.  and don't forget to get permission before crossing someone's property.

ooo Good! I thought useable ones cost a lot more. I may have this thing sooner rather than later.
