I run super singles on my 387, it does quiet and soften the ride. The Volvo 780 does have a fantastic ride though. It was a coin flip between the two when I was ordering my new truck. THe 387 won.

Isn't Volvo equipping there trucks with Volvo engines now? I thought I saw that somewhere? Does anybody know how these engines perform?

Since I live in the Pacific NW, I run in the rain quite a bit. The S/S's handle great !!! As far as snow... I don't run in it, I shut down if chains are required.

Volvo has their own motor, they have for many years, the engine choice for Volvo's are their motor, or a Cummins

My Volvo has a Volvo 465hp motor. it gets great fuel mileage, I average 7.0 to 7.4 mpg, but it is very expensive to repair. Also, few shops want to work on it so mostly you have to go to a Volvo dealer if you need work. Mine has 375,000 miles, a 2004, and has had one injector replaced, a valve adjustment, egr valve, turbo work (not a whole turbo) and a front cover plate (common on this year 2004) so the reliability is questionable.

You can still get a Volvo with a Cummins and though the fuel mileage is not quite as good, I hear reliability is much better and cost of repairs is much lower.

Volvo......not us. We had a new 06 Volvo, company truck, that we thought was great. When we bought our 99 T2000 we thought we would be giving up some on the ride. NOT ONE BIT. The volvo s ride was a circus ride compared to the KW. i.e. put a cup of coffee in your volvo cup-holder and watch it all spill and slosh out on the grapevine, I opened a bottle of water and put it on the floor of my KW, forgot it, went over the grapevine, and on the way down found it still upright. I can put a cup with no lid in my cupholder and nothing spills.........try that in a volvo. Also we are retrofitting the sleeper alittle. We took out the stock cupboards and put in sliding verticals, like in RV'S. widen the bed to a full and will mount our IMac, with a TV adapter, on a gryoscopic hanger.. Now what I want to find is a drawer fridge to put under the bunk.

yurkym by any chance was that volvo equipped with the "heavy" front axle air ride suspension? I've heard this front axle suspension is far too stiff, and that the "lightweight" version is perfect. I talked to a driver who had the same problem you had, went to a volvo dealership that knew their stuff, they retrofitted him to the lighter one, and he is one happy camper!

Volvos do ride good, they just need to be specced right. The interior quality needs to improve though. Far too many cheap screws, and cracking/squeeking panels etc. From what I hear, my truck(99) is actually when they had about their best quality. Pretty scary if they've gone downhill!
