Steve,
I really wish you would continue to post. I think a lot of people quietly site back and read your writings with a lot of interest - I know I do. As I mentioned some time back, I'm in somewhat the same position as you. I'm in IT and have been for many years. I make a good buck and bought my own truck and flatbed trailer during the last 15 months; very expensive as I went with new equipment. I've been hoping to be on the road already, but other things have come up and preventing me from doing that. I may get my authority in the spring and go from there. I'm not ready to quit my job just yet until I know I can make trucking a success for myself. Your posts are great and it's too bad that things on these forums degenerate to where they do. I just don't understand why this has to happen. Anyway, if you don't post anymore, the best of luck to you. I always enjoy getting into the office early and reading your posts in the morning over a cup of coffee.

Once again bad communication raises its ugly head. One inch of common sense can sometimes stretch a mile.

After Steve, expressed his opinion, about what i has to say(not directly), and i've said, that i didn't care, about "hobby" truckers, (that was in a different topic), i've stopped my comments. But this is not about Steve, he's got a good job, plenty of cash, and just bored.(I guess, i'm a bit jealous! )Mostly, i feel pitiful, for people, who doesn't have, all of the above, and honestly intend to make a living of it! Between those two "deals", i'd probably recommend a "lease purchase", at least, you wouldn't have to spend, all that money upfront, and your chances to success, would be about the same! :P

Solo379,
I hit the send buttom before I could out anything in. What I was talking about is Steve did the things that Gman and the others suggested. Pay cash or have a small payment, get set up with brokers, shippers, etc. Do a lot of research on the industry. He doesn't need to run a lot becuase of low over head. He can sit out the slow freight if he wants to. If he crashes he has insurance. Now that he's ready to roll it seems that some people are bothered that he can do this by choice instead of need. My life is gonna be the same whether it works for him or not. However, his posts and results may open some eyes and set things straight for the new O/O's.

And then when he is SHOWN that he is wrong, he either: 1. Continues to deny it or 2. Throws a hissy fit and insults the person who proved him wrong.

Well, since Steve KNOWS how to handle a loaded 80k lbs. truck, would I be out-of-line to be waiting at the bottom of the hill with camera in hand to take pics of the flaming brakes as he comes careening down a 6% grade?
