Default 50 gallons for $50!!

I just was posting a while ago, and this guy aproached me and asked if I pay for my fuel. Not too stunned, I replied "yes" and he proceeded to tell me how he's with a driver and they couldn't get a comcheck till tomorrow and they wanted a motel room tonight so they could have some drinks while on layover. So, he strikes the deal, 50 bucks = 50 gallons. At $3/gal (roughly) it would be poor business sense to turn it down, plus I wanted to help a fellow driver. Do I even have to finish this story?

Anybody ever have a company driver sell off a few gallons to get by? I know a few others did a thing.

Sorry to mislead anyone to think there was a super sale on diesel somewhere, but ya never know when a deal will pop up.

So basically you helped them steal from their company? Why didn't to the charitable thing and hand him $50? Not much on giving to a fellow driver?

Well, to be honest, I was full already, so me and him sqeezed about 31 gallons in and I actually paid $47. I can't hand $50 to a guy for a motel when he has a sleeper cab, just goes against principle 8) . As far as I know it comes out of his paycheck, but thats neither here nor there.

As far as helping a fellow driver, I had to bobtail up to the fuel island (to save my parking spot) and do this at 1am, so I think I did him right. He told me he had been trying for an hour for some motel money, so all worked out well in the end. :P

;;; they wanted a motel room tonight so they could have some
;;; drinks while on layover.

Why did they have to get a room to have a drink? Is it illegal to have a
drink in your cab at night?

Yes, it is VERY illegal to have alcohol in the cab at any time, or at least the general concensus is. If I do have a drink or two on the road (not driving, but in a restuarant) on a layover, I always return to the truck and enter through the passeneger door before going to bed as well. Drinking in the trailer is a big no-no as well. Any alcohol on board must be in the trailer, and have proper documentation as being part of the shipment.

I second that, it is illegal to have alcohol in your cab or trailer. Also most truck-stops, C-stores, have signs up that state it's against the law to drink on thier property even though you bought the alcoholic beverages from them. So going to a motel or having the drink in a bar/resteraunt, is the safest option.

Also, if he was an o/o then it isn't stealing from the company, it will get taken out of his check anyway. A company driver is a whole other story, but I have known a few who have been screwed and needed a few bucks. You have to do what you feel is right at the time, as long as you can sleep at night, and look yourself in the mirror the next day.

No matter how hard I was being screwed by my company I could not drain fuel out of the tanks and sell it. That is flat out stealing. It would be hard to sleep at night.
Two wrongs don't make a right, you don't want to stoop to their level. I guess I come from the old school.

Well, he didn't drain the tanks. I pulled my tractor up to the pump and he swiped his card. His card could buy fuel, but had no money on it. I wouldn't trust fuel from someones tanks.

If I didn't take the fuel, the next guy would have, so all is well, ends well I suppose.

I've seen bedbugers sell pads, freighthaulers sell spare tires, etc etc, sometimes ya just gotta eat

Sorry if he was a company driver and you bought that fuel for 1$ per gallon you and that guy stole money from his employer. Also if you have to sell a spare tire to eat or get home you need to seriously rethink your business skills.

You can call it whatever you want BanditsCousin, you stole fuel from his company and or the one that pays the fuel bill. Bottom line.

I hope you sleep well at night.
