I've noticed this as I'm shopping for a carrier again - not sure T-Mobile's coverage map is going to hold up to what I'm going to need on the road, but I hate to leave them. I've gotten spoiled with my unlimited data (actually unlimited...once you get to 5GB they just slow down the connection, no additional charges), free tethering and great tech support :lol: Ended up with them after two years of Sprint screwing up my bills and account so bad I walked into a T-Mobile store and handed them $800 in cash to set me up with the top of the line on two cell lines.

I have a Blackberry Pearl. I surf the web with it, check emails etc. I don't know if it has mp3 as that doesn't interest me but I have listened online to Pandora and other music sights with no problem. It has a version of maps but I've never used it. I find it easy to use and it gets great reception. One place we pick up in Eastern NC is way in the sticks and none of our drivers with cells gets reception there however I pick up 2-3 bars and talk with no problem.

Ditto for Sprint. I caught heck from them after my AirCard usage was above 5GB/month on their 'unlimited' plan. Sadly, I think I'll stick with Sprint for phone service and just use the wi-fi at wherever I am (which isn't available much, so it doesn't cost me much for that).

While I don’t have an iPhone, I do have an iPod Touch 3rd Generation, which is essentially an iPhone without the phone capability and I have to admit that it makes me angry with Sprint for not offering the device to its users. Alas, I’m in too deep with Sprint to change (corporate account with 6 phones, a BlackBerry and an air card) and every other service provider I’ve looked at cannot get within $100 of what I pay for my Sprint service, so I guess like everything in life, it’s a trade off.

That brings me to my BlackBerry. It’s an older model Curve 8330 (I was holding out for Sprint to finally get a Bold before I upgraded, but it looks like those idiots won’t ever have that model) that I use for just about everything. The trackball used as a pointing device on the phone is as easy as a computer mouse to use. While I have a top of the line GPS in my truck, I like being able to run Google Maps (which also works as a GPS) as a second opinion for those rare places that my GPS cannot find. I use the nearly full web capability (I say nearly because BBs don’t always handle Flash web pages with agility) to log onto Promiles and search for the cheapest fuel along my route or to get more detailed customer information when the information provided to me by a broker or shipper is incomplete or inaccurate or to manage my personal and business finances. It offers a handy note pad that I use to store all kinds of information (expenses, maintenance information, etc.) that I can later email to myself and use in various computer applications. Keeping up with my email is a snap since all my accounts automatically “push” to my BB. The device has full mp3 capability and expandable microSD storage as well as a 1.3 MP camera.

In short, having my own operating authority used to mean that I HAD boot up the notebook computer several times a day for a variety of reasons (having two people and a cat in the truck makes one of those nifty seat mounted notebook stands impractical). When you’re in a hurry, this can waste valuable time and take some effort. Now, I go days or even weeks without ever needing to dig my computer out from the end of the bunk and fire it up.

Whether you buy a BlackBerry, iPhone or some other smart device, I highly recommend getting SOMETHING. It really simplifies your life on the road and saves a ton of time and hassle.

i have been using a verizon blackberry storm for 13 months.
its great if you drive a daycab.
i would not get one if i had a laptop. its hard to read a lot of text cuz i dont bring my glasses so i make it big and scroll back and forth.
the unlimited internet and e-mail for 30 $ a month is great but some times i put it down instead of watch the progress bars.
i would rather email and text than call someone at a bad time but my motorola 710 bluetooth works great on my end. i love it when e-mail comes in on the blackberry and that sonar noise goes off!
couple drops of moisture and the storm is down for 4 days.
love the mp3 feature on the storm. loaded 140 compact discs in it and plug the 12 dollar transmitter from walmart auto department in the head phone hole and tune any radio to 107.5 and your blasting acid rock out of the radios in chip trucks big house stereo and my 3 four wheelers and the ghetto blaster in the shop.it shuffles too. imgonna put all those discs in the attic. used google maps a couple times. dont know if itll do google earth .i doubt it

T-mobile is excellent for me over the road. For two lines,mine and my wifes plus the internet feature ,with unlimited talk i pay around $120 a month.Considering i go through about 8000-10000 minutes a month, i really love since i got hit with a few high bills last year.The phone that i use is the GOOGLE g1,which is a perfect phone in every aspect,except for the battery life.But like it's been rumored,and i hope to be true they might get the iphone,since att and tmobile run on the same platform GSM.

I've criss-crossed this country on every conceivable road. T-mobile has held up well. I am pretty sure that when I have no signal that iphone in the rig next to me ain't talking either.
