Leased on with england

CR England - Truck Driving Jobs - Truck Driving School - Trucking Company - Refrigerated Trucking
Man they pay great! 90 CPM and they start paying drops on the THIRD DROP! Insurance is $566 for liability plus 3.85% for physical damage ($320 for a 100k truck)plus $105 for occupational plus $32 for cargo. Putting us at $1023 per month for insurance. Cheap $1.25 per gallon fuel! Wow is that cheap! WHERE DO I SIGN UP!? I can't believe people sign for this garbage. I knew they were bad, but that's beyond ridiculous. Wait a minute, 1.5 CPM off for "fuel tax purposes" yet the fuel is capped at $1.25? How does that work? I have a feeling the bean counters at CR england have no idea how IFTA actually works. Maintenance 7 cpm? at 10k miles a month: $9000 to the truck 21 CPM for fuel, $2100 insurance $1023 per month 8.5 CPM for "fuel tax escrow" and "maintenance escrow" $850 Putting us at $3,973 for expenses, $5027 after expenses. 50 CPM before even paying for the truck or any maintenance/repairs is pathetic. I know company drivers that make 50 CPM. That is why these guys lease a truck then take on one or more trainees. Gotta keep the truck rolling to make fat cash.

Maybe i should seriously start thinking of going O/O. Swift, you have to take a class about it, and get 8 mo. solo under your belt first (from what i was told).
Both my mentors were O/O, my last one showed me what he made a week. After fuel and truck payment and taxes, he was taking home $1400-1500 a week. Now granted i was on his truck, and he was getting mentor pay...so i'm thinkin' the real number would be closer to $1,000-1,200 a week. But let me pass along what i know, and someone can tell me what i'm missing, and where i might be wrong. O/O you have a weekly truck payment, you pay your your fuel out of pocket (some of the cost is offset by fuel surcharge). You lease your truck onto whatever company, and they pay for registration, and insurance. you pay for maintence, B-service, inspections...the qualcomm unit....everything. I know you get a bigger chunk of money per mile, but what exactly should that average? i know every company is different, so any help would be greatly appreciated. What i've thought about, is if my credit is good enough, to get a truck from a 3rd party, and not go thru the company for said 'lease'. Any companies have 'walk away' leases anymore? Couple reasons i would want a 3rd party truck....1) it is MY truck. can do with it what i want...drive it home, bobtail, have a dog, whatever. 2) I dont want to get some truck that has 100k miles on it, be a year or two old, and then 'sold' to me a being 'new'. I was in the El Paso terminal, and saw a poster saying "lease me for $495/week"...and it was a 2005 Kenworth. i've heard drivers getting $500/wk payments, but the truck they bought isnt more than a year or two old. Being a 2005, you dont know what is wrong with it....accidents, etc. and i am sure the company selling it, wont be totally upfront with you about it either. I want to go O/O, but first, i've gotta get steady mileage. this 1500-1800/wk isnt cutting it. I would say NOW, i am getting 2000 on average (seeing how i just ran 1800 in 3 days going Houston to Temple to Fresno) but i'd like to see 2500 average before i commit to going O/O. Dont want to start each week in the hole for the truck payment, and only being able to 'make' $100 a week. Don't do it! If you think you are starving now, just sign on the dotted line and do a lease purchase. You say $1,000-$1,200 per week right? Now subtract income taxes of 30% approx. $300. Then subtract health benefits $400 per week. That leaves you with about $400-600 per week. WHY? You can make more as a company driver without the headaches.

Boy, I've talked to a number of lease guys from England and have not met one that was happy yet. I'd be very cautious about lease/purchase and England even more so.
I talked to an o/o in the atlanta terminal last week. he had 3 trucks on at JB and was putting a fourth on as we spoke. He told me that he runs 2 weeks or so and go's home for a couple of days, never turns stuff down no matte where it go's and last year did about 200,000 with 120,000 take home. He was very happy. What do you guys think? Do those numbers sound reasonable?

Nope no company health coverage ,Because you are no longer a Swift employee ,As you are now an independant contractor leased onto Swift pulling their freight. If I find a company that can supply a yearly average of 150,000 or more miles (SOLO) at an average of 1.35-1.50 mile earning 40k-50k gross after oerating costs that offers log book freedom ,and up spec Pete 387's I'd give it a try just for fun ,But I have no other bills right now ,So I can be adventerous.

That is the whole idea behind a "lease/purchase" program, with any company, unless they simply want to get rid of their old trucks at a better price than they can get from a trade-in. If you want the "AMERICAN DREAM", you're going to be married to the truck and married to the road. No life outside that. It means many more miles for the company, much more freight hauled, and more revenue for the company. If anyone makes out with the program, you can bet it's set up so the company will benefit first and foremost. If the driver does not make out... Oh, well... There are plenty more suckers... Ahhhh..... Drivers that will take his place when he's gone.

hmmmm....now that i think about it I'm not sure if he meant $120,000 for his truck alone or for all of the trucks combined. I took him to mean only the truck that he drove. But does it make a difference? The money is his. If it was for all of the trucks then he would be making over 200k per year. that does sound silly.
