As I sit looking all around,
Confusion and uncertainty is all I found.
The answers are there,
But I do not know where.
Optimistic and hopeful dreams,
Are all I have so it seems.
The future I do not know,
So all I can do is take it slow.
But I do know it will work out,
So I wait and watch without a doubt

No, but would that make me Swedish if my passport said Canadian?

Definitely not in that context. Since there's no such thing as an "Ethnic American" I'd have to say Cluggy was referring to citizenship, to which Mr. Ramirez *IS* an American.

It seems to me that Cluggy was referring to immigrants vs. people who were born in the USA. The article never stated whether Mr. Ramirez was a naturalized citizen. It only stated that he was from Cuba, and lived in the US.

Wasn't the point of the article that he was a dumb-a** for not knowing they could track him? Where he was born dosn't make much difference. If he is here legally then more power to him. If he is illegal then put him in jail and send him back to where he came from.

There is a ratio between the population of Cuba and those who cross over to FL. illegally is just about as equal as the Mexican Illegals ratios.

Fact is that this driver got caught, and was from Cuba. There is nothing said about him being in this country legally. Why would they bring up the fact that he was from Cuba?

But let's say that he had all of the proper paperwork, and is "considered" legally here.

That company still hired a non-citizen truck driver instead of a US Driver just to save a few pennies.

Did he do a background check? Not that I read.
Did he run a MVR? Not that I read.
Did he run a DAC report? Not that I read.
Did he check out the guy's past 10 years employment history? Again, not that I read.

These processes are in place for a reason - because of things like this occures. So if the company did this, they knew what they were hiring.

If they didn't do this, they should have. Either way, it's their fault.

Am I wrong?

I think you are. The article didn't state that he was illegal. It was pretty clear that he had a CDL. Beyond that, you are making a lot of assumptions based on things the article does not state either way.

It didn't state that he was legal, either. And it did hint that he wasn't.

Where did it state that he had a CDL? A CDL doesn't turn the key, and a CDL can be forged. I only state this due to the unprestanted amount of Illegals driving trucks here in Texas....

Well, while I'm making assumptions not stated in the article, I would look carefully at the owner of the trucking company. After all, he did hire a illegal cuban to drive his trucks.....who knows just how much he knew about this......

Just stiring the pot.......:smokin:
