How would you go about getting the job that requires HAZMAT, and you are waiting on it?
Yep The bossman hired me anyway and put me to doing things not requiring the hazmat but he's getting inpatient waiting for me to get it in the mail. They were (still are) in a bind for drivers, so they smapped me up. It's an oilfield service company, so I'm hoping the oil price don't drop any more causing the oil field to shut down again.

you need a less than 30 days poll option I got my hazmat here in md in 2 weeks from submission to getting the letter and going to dmv and taking the hazmat test and getting my endorsement. Letter took about a week but I was approved 7 days after fingerprint submission. I guess it pays to have a clean record!

As far as thetest went i got a lot of the easy questions nothing too hard, got to question 27 and the computer stopped me and told me i passed. so only 3 wrong

A background check is not done for license renewal G. An MVR check yes, but not a background check.

How long ago was that, Mackman? Just wondering if the turnaround time has gotten worse as of late....(FBI busy with politicians and elections???)

Thanks to all for the responses and info. 11-16-08 will mark 60 days since my pkg. was fowarded to FBI in Washington, D.C. I'll call DPS again if I haven't received anything by then to see if there's any way to trace it. Thanks again.....

I'm in Tennessee and my background check was approved in less than two weeks.

How long ago was that Oakdancer? I'm finding when I ask other drivers I know, that they got their's quick like that, but it was before Homeland Security got into the picture.

Around the 6-10 of December 2006 I took the test and applied for the Hazmat endorsement. I got the letter from Homeland Security in January and it was dated January 2, 2007.

Had my CDL for nearly two years but only added hazmat a couple of months ago, so Homeland Security was definitely part of the equation.
