I have been waiting about 60 days now for my new Texas CDL with a HazMat Endorsement to arrive. DPS said to allow 90 days. I wanted to poll the folks here that finally received theirs. How long did it take to come back after you submitted your finger prints?

That is a toughie...for me.
I moved to Texas in 05. I switched my WA license over to Texas in February of 05.....they made it good until 2011...and I already had my Haz and Tank endorsement...so..... in 2011 I have to do the HazMat background check. Now....I did my TWIC application on June 29. My clearance was issued and the card was in Beaumont by July 17. Their computer that programs the card was only fixed thursday..so the card has been sitting in a desk for 3 1/2 months, approximately.

Ya know, I've thought about getting my HAZMAT, if I knew that I could get on with FedEx, etc.
How would you go about getting the job that requires HAZMAT, and you are waiting on it?

It took about a month for me to get the letter from Homeland Security.

Everything went smooth for me.
I took the renewal tests at my local DMV about 2 months before my license was to expire. I had to travel 50 miles to get the fingerprint card..and schedule my appointment with an authorized Homeland Security center for the background check. That was the worst part for me. All sites were 250+ miles away, and had limited business hours. But...the NSA approval came within 12 days, and my new license was sent within 30 days. That was 19 months ago. I'm good till mid-2010. I'm not going to bother with the TWIC. I'm even thinking of dropping my HazMat endorsenment and Tanker endorsement next time I renew my license. Last 2 years I've been hauling flatbed steel or fruit harvest. Prior to that I did mainly reefer for 4 years. I kept the endorsements because when I started out, I wasn't sure what I'd end up doing.

I don't think that I will renew my hazmat this year. I havent hauled a hazmat load in at least 4 years. If the money was there for hazmat I might consider doing it. It still bothers me to pay for background check for an endorsement when they do one when I renew my license anyway.
