America's 25 Lowest Paying Jobs
#91
I didn't realize that I was in my golden years, yet. :? Actually, I don't spend much time in truck stops. I am too busy working.
Just for the record, LeBron, those millionaire ball players belong to the union for those who are not super stars. The union doesn't negotiate their contracts. They have lawyers and agents who do that for them for a percentage. I think the sports industry would be much better off without unions. Let the market decide what to pay these people. If the top players wanted to toe the union line they would forfeit part of their salary and only take the same pay as all their other team mates.

Yes...if the USA people stood up and had some sense they would
express how much they are willing to pay for entertainment... as opposed to being fed alot of hype and paying outrageous sums for their escapism...

Many of the regular members as well as the moderators have already said it plain and clear, so I don't need to rehash. If you can't take a hint, then you might pack your bags, and be ready. I just can't see working round' the clock and never seeing home to only make $40K-$50k. Yeah the W2 looks good until you figure all the hours you spend on the job plus live out of a truck. What it comes down to is that OTR is way underpaid, which explains the driver "shortage" and astronomical turnover rates in that end of the biz. You talk to some of the old hands who hauled back before and just after deregulation. Those guys carried Teamster cards and pulled down over $40k in the early 80's. Adjusted for inflation, that's over $80k today!!!! Which explains why I haul mail on the weekend: every penny of that money goes straight into savings/investments. I'm not gonna be like Stan with a broken truck and no money. Or GMAN spending his golden years in truckstops. No sireebob! I'd rather be like FeederFred...just truck part-time when I feel like it for some extra coin and live off a big fat union pension + investments. The hell with it. And to hell with all you haters. If you're jealous of what union drivers make, too bad. That's what you get for not working under a contract. Ever wonder why millionare NBA, NFL, MLB, etc athletes are all in unions? Don't hate the player, hate the game! I knocked down $55,000 a year in the late 80's. If I had so desired I could have worked 70 hour weeks each and every week through the 90's and made over $70,000. I chose instead to work 55 hour weeks...contribute to my 401K..and take the majority of my 3 day weekends, and only gross in the $60,000 range. I always made enough money, that I never needed or felt the need, to work a second job. As far as now....and my broke down truck...Well..I guess having the repairs made is better than not having the repairs made. As for being broke! Silly boy! Broke is for losers. I already have my truck repairs paid for..and have enough in the bank to sit another 3 month's if I so chose. Being the type person I am...I'll go ahead and head out friday on a load to Atlanta. I'll spend sunday with my brother and his family...eat a free steak..drink some swet tea..watch a decent movie..just rleax. Make my delivery at 5am monday..and go on from there...maybe I will even run for 56 days again..maybe not. It all depends on how I feel after X amount of time. LOL...and that Players Union for the baseball players? Run on down to Cincinnati and ask Ken Griffey Sr. how much he made as a "Union" hand! The best money he ever made was the two years he sat in Seattle babysitting his kid. History is replete with stories of broke and broken ballblayers...forgotten by their union. So the "union" saved your job for you. Why did they need to? Thirty years of driving...I've never been fired! Yeah...I was laid off...but that was my choice. Contact management where I am now..ask if they want to see me leave. Gawd knows..I have vented plenty on a few things I've seen and felt were wrong. They still wouldn't run me off...because they know the quality of service I provide. If I have bullied you...I really am sorry. Really.

OTOH, I rather enjoyed your post RoadHog. Nowhere does it state that you can say anything you want anywhere on the internet. Ive had to moderate similar Adam Henrys like LBJ on the forums I use in Delphi.
I didnt miss him the first time he got removed as CFM and I wont miss his smart ass remarks when LBJ is gone.

I’m not choosing this topic in particular, just this opportunity to make my point.
This forum is for the new drivers coming to CAD to seek help and answers to their questions. In most cases, they see the fights going on, and are intimidated from even asking a question. I don’t need to spell it out, now do I? No matter what I say, someone is going to figure I said it wrong. This isn’t about victimizing anyone, and not about me winning at anything. The ramped up rhetoric is because we have tried to ask nice, even tried allowing people to work things out for themselves.

OTR blows. Your opinion. Not your style of driving, it "blows" for you....not all
If you enjoy it, I feel sorry for you. Why I dont feel sorry for me, why should you feel sorry for me? If you're stuck in it, that's your own fault. Not all are "stuck" in it. It you think it's good money, you're clueless. Attacking OTR as an occupation is one thing. BUT, to call a driver "clueless" is an attack on the driver....poor taste LBJ. If you live in bum **** Iowa, then move. Simple solutions for simple minds....aint that right LBJ
Don't hate the player, hate the game! your analogy would be the player is the driver and the game would be trucking. You state "dont hate the player(driver)"...yet you continue to attack and bash the OTR driver, because we dont want to live by the same standard as the almighty LBJ and his cronies.

Now that I am a Moderator, I have my short list, and BigDiesel is right at the top. This is an open warning. There is a new Deputy Sheriff in town... and if I need to PM you with a warning to show some restraint, don't expect me to tell you twice. I am a fun loving guy, but don't test my leniency. I hope this is all that needs to be said, and may we all treat each other in a more respectful and generous manner. I never thought that it would be something quite like this that would bring Karnajj and I to full agreement................
